JJC Nursing Program: Fall of 2015

Published

Hi, ya'll! I just thought I would try to connect with any other hopefuls that are going to attempt to be accepted into JJC's Nursing program for Fall of 2015. Was curious as to how you are all feeling about your possibility of being accepted. (I.e teas score, pre-reqs, gpa, etc.)

Hope to meet some new friends to share this journey with! Any other "seasoned" nursing students that read this, care to shed some light on what I should be preparing myself for?

Please let me know what you find out laurynq16 as I got my info from Paul.... and I'd like to know what the correct info is, lol.

I have my cna too but mine is expired. I was hoping to save the money on the class as well.

I spoke with Tina, who referred me to Kathy in compliance. She is going to be in touch with Mary, the department chair, in the morning and then will call me back. So I will let you know tomorrow what they say! I would love to save the money, but wouldn't mind having to brush up on the skills since I got mine way back in summer of 2010. :/

Never idk how to delete lol

Does anyone know how the Pell Grant works if you get accepted into the program? Will you still be eligible for it? I have a pell grant right now. But I think I remember someone saying once you are in a program the Pell Grant won't pay.

Teateabo3, when you say the pell grant wont pay, are you talking about the cna class nurs 140 specifically or the rest of the nursing program in general?

I don't know much about Financial Aid, but I don't really see why it wouldn't pay for the classes you are taking in the Nursing program. Before I was married, I was in the Radiology program and it paid for my classes.

The nursing program in general. Right now my major is listed as an Associates of Art and then once I get into the nursing program, it will change to pre-nursing and that will change my eligibility for the Pell Grant. At least that was what someone told me. I just need to call Financial Aid, but trying to get to an actual person to talk to there, is difficult.

Please let us know what you find out. Not being able to use the pell grant for the program would really be horrible.

I've used my Pell Grant for the nursing program both semesters so far. The first semester if you take Nurs. 140 with your other classes, you will be at 13 credit hours and will be considered full-time so you will get to use your whole grant. The only difference moving forward into 2nd semester is the classes aren't considered full-time (even though it feels like full-time and a half!), so they calculate a portion to give to you and you will probably have to pay a small portion out of pocket.

Have you guys heard any other science scores from applicants? My friend that has applied scored pretty low on the science part (I think in the high 40s- 47 I think?) and we're curious if people are scoring much higher or around the same.

I dont know about others but I can tell you I got a 71 on the science portion of the teas.

I haven't heard many Science Scores, either. My personal science score was 69.9%. Thanks for the info on the pell grant!
