JJC Nursing Program: Fall of 2015

Published

Hi, ya'll! I just thought I would try to connect with any other hopefuls that are going to attempt to be accepted into JJC's Nursing program for Fall of 2015. Was curious as to how you are all feeling about your possibility of being accepted. (I.e teas score, pre-reqs, gpa, etc.)

Hope to meet some new friends to share this journey with! Any other "seasoned" nursing students that read this, care to shed some light on what I should be preparing myself for?

Lauryn, if Kim Dyer is good at bio then she is good at micro. It is almost the same thing! So do not stress, because she can't be great at one, and suck in the other. So let that worry go, because it is time that you can't get back!

One more thing, Lauryn...I feel for ya with the children situation. However, you will be happy to know that most of us have children in the program. I have 5 children, and if I can do this---then so can you!!!!

Ok...Theory is calling my name...time to go study! Have a beautiful & blessed evening my soon to be RN family!!

Thank you Student4u2! Love all the tips!!! I have 2 kids so I get the whole kid aspect. You must be a super strong lady to do the nursing program with 5 kids!! Good job, mama!! I swear time is going so slow, while I wait for an answer....tick tock tick tock

Student,

Sorry, I don't know your real name! I am so glad to hear a lot of people have children! That's very refreshing! I thought I would be alone with that for some reason. Can you be my personal tutor?! :) Fingers crossed that we are all blessed with amazing clinical groups! I am hoping that being in the evening program and having a smaller group may help with that.

I hope you're right about her being good with micro, too. I am petrified of the class for some reason. But was instructed to take it over the summer instead of during the program at some point.

TeTea,

You don't have too much longer! It's right around the corner and then we can go celebrate!!!!

OH! One more question for when you check back, Student-

I got my CNA in 2010. Never worked, as I entered the Radiology program in 2011. However, I am thinking it may be best just to re-take the class with everyone else in the fall, since I will learn things as the instructors want them done? Opposed to going and re-taking my boards and getting skill tested? Any thoughts?

Yes thank God for you and all the tips and words of encouragement...I'm just waiting on this email lol :)

Mental break time for me...you will all understand soon enough. Lauryn, there are 6 of us in my clinical group and only 2 of us are CNA's. The other 4 had to take the CNA classes with the regular classes. It is a ton of work on top of what you already do, but it also gives you a leg up on the skills aspect. If it were me---I would take it with the regular RN classes, but it is totally your call. Again, it is a ton of work, because I watched my friends go through it, but it also reinforces the skills that you learn in the RN clinicals class. Plus I think it was only 6 weeks long that they had to do it while studying for the other classes.

Paul told me that as long as your on the health care worker registry as a cna (even if your certification is expired) then you do not have to take the cna classes.

Student4u2, can you tell me, was there any money due at orientation? Im trying to figure out how much the first semester will cost and when it will be due by. I heard the first semester books run about $1000. Did you find that to be true?

Thanks!!

Irish,

Really?? I'm going to have to call and double check, as I would LOVE to save the money! Haha Tina had told me that it had to be an active license.
