Jeff State Spring 2015 Hopefuls

Published

Hello all! I am transferring from UAB to Jeff State after two unsuccessful attempts at getting into the nursing program over there! I just spoke to the adviser and will be applying with 224.5 points. I had 2 A's and a B in my pre-reqs, and studied for a month and got an 88.7 on the Teas-V. She said that my application was very competitive, and I find it ironic/surprising that I can be competitive at one program and "not on the radar" so to speak at another! Ha! I guess it goes to show that you should never give up on your dreams -- if one avenue won't work just try a new one!

Anyways, I know it's super early, but I couldn't resist starting this post!! I hope to make some new friends so we can help each other study and be the best we can be! Good luck to all!

Wow, 224.5 points? You're basically guaranteed to get in! I also transferred from UAB and I am applying to the spring program. Which campus did you apply to? I've been reading up on comments from previous semesters and they all mentioned Shelby is horrible, but that's the one I'm applying to, so I really hope it's not as horrendous as they say it is!

First of all, hello and good luck to you!!! I am applying to Shelby for the spring, too, as well as UAB! I have read the bad reviews. IDK, I wish they were more specific about why it's so horrible. I chose it because it's a newer facility and I am more familiar with that area. Have you seen an adviser at Jeff State yet? Are you going to apply to UAB, too?

Just Jeff State. I think they say Shelby is horrible because they start out with 70-80 people and only 20 or so graduate? I wonder if that's just Shelby, or do all campuses weed out a number of people like that... I've already met with an adviser and I think I have a good chance, but we shall see!

I am really glad you have already started a thread!! I am applying to the main campus. I did not do so hot on my TEAS test, but I have all A's in my pre-reqs. I am applying with 203 points. I spoke with an adviser who said the cut off would be somewhere in the high 180's, but it really just depends on what everyone applies with. And if you do not mind me asking, what are the requirements to get into the UAB nursing program?

@ Livi23 - No problem. UAB requires and overall and nurse foundation GPA of at least 2.75. The application consists of - in order of greatest importance to least - the GPA's, essay, resume, and volunteer work of at least 60 hours. The volunteer work is optional, though.

You can go to uab.edu/nursing then click academic programs for more info! The deadline for UAB is September, 11th.

Thanks for telling me all that!! UAB is more of a second choice for me because jeff state is closer. I really hope I get in this spring because I like plan A better than plan B. Eventually though I plan on transferring to get a BSN. Good luck with both of your applications!!!

Thank you! The adviser told me the bridge program is much less competitive. If I only get in at JSCC, I plan on bridging, too! Good luck to you!

How does the bridge program work, exactly? Is it the RN-BSN program that UAB offers? I was told that we can't transfer any of the nursing classes we take at Jeff State, so I'm not really sure how it works.

Well, you have to get your ADN first, take the NCLEX and become a nurse. When you do the bridge program, you just take upper division courses. There is also an RN to MSN for 2nd degree students that have their ADN. If you go on uab.edu/nursing and browse the academic programs you will see this link for each option that says "fact sheet" and it lists all the specifics.

Wow. Thanks for this post. I'm applying for the Fall of 2015, and I have to go to the Shelby campus because I'm doing the night/weekend progarm. I didn't think people would go to JeffState after going to UAB. Uab was my first choice. I am working on my prenursing classes now. I have two previous degrees, so I don't have many to take. I've heard the horror stories about Shelby campus as well. I'm just praying that I can handle whatever issues they're referring to, since I don't have a choice of campuses. I chose Jeff State because EVERY nurse I've ever asked in the ER where they went to school, they say Jeff State and loved it!

Good luck to you all.

Good luck to you, too, feeneishia! What classes are you taking this semester?
