Hi Everyone,
I just applied to The RN program at Jeff State and I wanted to get a thread going for other Fall 2013 hopefuls. If you're like me, the next couple months of waiting is going to be torture and I just thought it would be helpful to have somewhere to go to help pass the time with others in our situation :) I'm pretty optimistic and think I have a good chance, but you just never know! What kind of scores did everyone apply with? I wonder what the cutoff will be? I was told it could be late July before we hear anything...anyone hear something different? Also, who is applying for part-time and who is applying for full-time?
Look forward to meeting you all and GOOD LUCK to EVERYONE!
I still have to take Microbiology and I am taking Anatomy and Physiology 2 right now. I thought most nursing programs were self study, because they just have so much material to cover. I am praying I make it through, because I know a lot don't. I don't have a job currently... I just have to take care of my kids, household, and go to school (which is still a lot of work! :))[/quote']I would take Micro sooner rather than later. The program just gets harder and more time consuming as you go through.
My plan was to take it next semester... So I would have class Tuesday and Thursday night and Friday and saturday morning. The micro would be online at Jeff state Jefferson campus (and meet for labs on Friday mornings). Y'all are making me nervous!! Is nursing school that much different than anatomy and physiology or do you just have to study differently?
Nursing school is a different animal all together. You cannot just memorize lists and facts, though there is some of that (measurement conversions, lab values etc); but you have to take a concept and apply it to a real situation and deduce which option is the MOST correct and applicable in the scenario. You will most likely do yourself a disservice if you try to utilize memorization. It's more like figuring out a giant puzzle and piecing it together with labs, systems, protocols and standards of practice. That's why so many people gripe about nursing school being all self study. An outline with pertinent facts are presented, but it is up to you to develop the critical thinking skills to come to the best conclusion.

Some test answers have 4 correct answers. You have to pick the "most" correct. Or you will have 5 options and have to select all the corrects ones. If you don't select one you should, or select one you shouldn't, you miss the whole thing. It's critical thinking.
And I've heard that the day program at Shelby doesn't give a required reading list. If that's the case, PM me amd I can send you the one we had in Nights/Weekends.
Can you send me the list also? I'm new to this site but I got accepted to the F/T program at the Shelby campus. I'm excited and nervous all at the same time. Thanks
