Hi Everyone,
I just applied to The RN program at Jeff State and I wanted to get a thread going for other Fall 2013 hopefuls. If you're like me, the next couple months of waiting is going to be torture and I just thought it would be helpful to have somewhere to go to help pass the time with others in our situation :) I'm pretty optimistic and think I have a good chance, but you just never know! What kind of scores did everyone apply with? I wonder what the cutoff will be? I was told it could be late July before we hear anything...anyone hear something different? Also, who is applying for part-time and who is applying for full-time?
Look forward to meeting you all and GOOD LUCK to EVERYONE!
That's weird to me that they only count as 2 credit hours... Is 1st or 2nd semester easier? I still have a class left to take
To me 1st semester seemed easier although it wasn't a breeze. Getting used to answering NCLEX style questions is a pain! There will be 4 options. Two will be wrong but still seem right. Out of the other two, one will be MORE right than the other. It's all about critical thinking. I would recommend going ahead and getting an NCLEX review book. Saunders is a great one. Buy it used of Amazon. Start practicing the section from Fundamentals and Pharm and start taking practice test. And MAKE SURE you know your safety. That is a HUGE HUGE thing!! What class do you still have to take LCP?
Hi guys, I got my acceptance email for the Shelby campus for this aug. and was just wondering if anyone knew if there is a certain type of stethoscope we are required to have and blood pressure cuff? I want to go ahead and start getting some of my things but don't want to buy the wrong ones and spend double in the end. Also can anyone recommend any books that I might want to get to start studying/looking over.

As for books, I would recommend a Saunders NCLEX review book.
Congratulations, guys!
It's kind of cool reading this since I will be in the same boat as you guys next year. I already have a BS so I'm finishing up my 2 A&P classes this summer and fall and will probably apply for the nights and weekend program next fall. I just took the TEAS Test and got an 88% so I'm hoping I'll be able to apply with ~215 points.
You can get all your vaccinations at the Jeff County Health Department
Shelby campus day program is 99% self study. You are expected to teach yourself pretty much everything. Almost half of my 1st semester class failed so be prepared to spend a lot of time reading and practicing. Do NOT make it your goal just to pass. You need to do your best to learn as much as you can because each semester builds on the previous. I wish I could have afforded UAB. There are a couple of good nursing teachers at Jeff State but most need to find a new profession or retire. If you have it in your head that nursing school will be a warm, nurturing environment; it's not! Only the strong survive. You have to be strong, confident, have A LOT of common sense and willing to devote the next 15 months to
studying. Good luck.

But don't worry. I have friends who go to Beville and Wallace and they say its the same way there. MAKE SURE you learn the safety chapter and the chapter on sterile technique. Those are two big things you have to know. Safety, safety, safety!!

Don't worry, we have yet to be in class the full 3 hours. And you don't have clinicals your first semester. I would set aside some money because there ARE unexpected expenses that pop up, like random drug testing. Plus, you jhave to pay for the HESI each semester. Not trying to discourage any, just trying to prepare you so there won't be any shocks.
