Jeff State Fall 2013 hopefuls

U.S.A. Alabama

Hi Everyone,

I just applied to The RN program at Jeff State and I wanted to get a thread going for other Fall 2013 hopefuls. If you're like me, the next couple months of waiting is going to be torture and I just thought it would be helpful to have somewhere to go to help pass the time with others in our situation :) I'm pretty optimistic and think I have a good chance, but you just never know! What kind of scores did everyone apply with? I wonder what the cutoff will be? I was told it could be late July before we hear anything...anyone hear something different? Also, who is applying for part-time and who is applying for full-time?

Look forward to meeting you all and GOOD LUCK to EVERYONE!

i was fine after i got 4 done at one time. you mustve got the flu shot too.

Vaccines always make me feel awful too... I'm not looking forward to that. Is the flu shot on the list? I haven't even looked. I may do that one separate since it always makes me feel like I have the flu lol

Does anyone know how much tuition is for the first semester?

$118 (approx) per credit hr. It may go up in the Fall. I read an article on tuition increases for the state. Then around $250 for building fees and technology fees Plus books (plan on 200-600 depending on full-time or N/W and to bundle or not to bundle), HESI at around $120, Clinical kits and scrubs, $15 for student malpractice ins and then there are the extra study guides you will probably buy to help you for classes.

I have my fundamentals, health assessment, dictionary, and spiral nursing diagnosis books I am willing to sell. I'm keeping my pharm book. If any of you going to Shelby are interested

Alright nt/wknd shelby people, we've got orientation tomorrow! I'm so excited! If you see a slightly awkward, brown haired girl with a big ol smile on her face...that'd be me, haha :)

Didn't get to order scrubs last night...was so looking forward to wearing them this fall semester but I guess we won't need them til Spring :( Anyone else a little let down by orientation? I don't know what I was expecting...but that wasn't it. Although, I was a little inspired/moved by the chair of the department's speech on how satisfying it will be to earn our title as an RN...how they don't just hand out good grades, we have to EARN IT.

I was a little frustrated and felt like it was a waste of time. First of all the gave us the full time programs packet and every question that was asked they were like I don't know. So I have no idea what is expected of us before class starts other than the math packet. Should we get our shots? Should we wait? Should we do CPR? Should we wait? Should we order books? Should we wait? I don't think they were organized and I thought that the instructor they mentioned should have been there if everything is based on what she chooses. I was disappointed mostly cause I had to use vacay time to leave work early and I learned nothing. I learned more on here!

Haha yeah that's how I felt... Like they didn't have any answers. By the way, I was the one who asked if we would need the online access codes. They paused for a good few minutes for that question LOL

they did say they were transitioning to different material. I hope we really dont require codes otherwise in getting all used textbooks. We went by the bookstore and the nursing office and they said they wont know what books we actually need until next week. In any case im ready to get started.

I was told that the codes weren't required when I called yesterday. She didn't say anything about them changing and not to order them. She did tell me to go ahead and order the skills pack we WILL need it for 104. I think we need an orientation do-over. I hope it isn't like this the whole time.
