Hello everyone!
I'm new to this form as I am trying to get into January 2014's intake in Practical Nursing!
I am pretty nervous since I'm not sure if I will make it this year since I did graduate high school 4 years ago but I did do a victory lap for a year in upgrading my chemistry mark with additional mathematics courses. However in the end I didn't actually go to pursue the science field in University instead I went for a BA in Psychology.
For Practical nursing I have applied to: Sheridan College, George Brown, and Centennial College (Flex); I have already done my HOAE test at Sheridan College as it is an admission requirement for Sheridan, however I was told I wouldn't get my test scores! This is so nerve wrecking!
Also, as I am asking for advice here, I was just wondering if anyone give me some advice/let me know the chances of getting into this program with the following high school marks: 12U English - 70, 12U Chemistry - 89, 12U Adv. Functions- 78, 12U Data Management - 95, 12U Calculus - 88, 11U Bio - 71, 12U Philosophy - 77. GPA in University was a 3.7. I know my high school marks aren't the greatest at all, but any advice/opinion will help relief my stress!
Also anyone here applying for Practical Nursing for January intake :)?
Thank you everyone :)!
Also for the people who have heard ANYTHING from George Brown - how did you hear? Was it by email? Just checking Stu-View/OCAS? Paper mail? When I got into Pre-Health last year (but didn't go), I never got an email from them - just paper mail, but I had checked my ocas page religiously and knew I had been accepted because the offer was there. I'm going a bit crazy refreshing my stu-view multiple times a day, haha, so just wondering if there is an email that goes out :)
Hi Klovesedamame,
I won't give up for sure! If I didn't get the offer for January 2014, I will try to find another option to get into this program easily. I did not do the Pre-Health at George Brown or anywhere else. I sent the result of the evaulation of my credentials from ICAS to OCAS. I actually finished 3 years of BScN in the Philippines with very good grades. I did my Academic Upgrading in George Brown as well last 2011.
If ever I will get the offer of admission, I won't waste this opportunity. This is my passion!
Thank you for your encouragement and I really appreciate it! I am getting stressed and can't wait but I am praying that one day I will land on the same scenario like you!
GOD bless you!
John
Hey klovesedamame,
My stu-view changed first to show the George Brown offer, then OCAS, then I received the acceptance package in the mail.
I think you are right that they are going through the pre-health students first, because we were told they save like 20 seats for pre-health students that maintain an average of 3.5 or higher. Most of my GB friends who didn't maintain the gpa have been waitlisted and other friends haven't seen any change. We were also told they would send out acceptance letters near reading week, which is mid- October. So hang in there, I am sure you will hear something :)
And Jrcm0218, even if you are waitlisted, don't give up hope, because some of the students who get in, may choose another school leaving a spot for you.
Good luck to all those waiting for their acceptance letters :)
Update: so I've decided that Niagara college is my school of choice!! I went ahead and accepted my offer before the deadline which I'm glad I did because I later found out I'm wait listed for Sheridan (which was my last choice anyways) so I'm happy! :) I gave in my 60 days notice for my apartment, and the hunt is on for an apartment in well and which is extremely difficult and stressful when you have two dogs.I do my first aid/ CPR HCP course this weekend, I've applied for osap and everything is slowly starting to fall into place.
I have to book my immunizations still and I believe the CRC isnt due until my second semester.
I almost got it now but I feel like its too early BC they want " the most recent" and I'm afraid they won't accept it and will make me get a new one.
Hey FutureNurse18!
I am glad to hear that you have decided which school to attend! If you weren't wait listed and were planning to attend Sheridan, I probably would be one of your classmates :) since I did end accepting Sheridan over Centennial and George Brown was no where to be heard from, but it's all alright.
I hope everything goes smooth and well for you, including your move :) You should probably ask the college when they need all the requirements by because I believe you're correct about needed the most recent and up to date immunization record, etc.
Hello All,YAY!!!!! My George Brown Stu-view status has changed to final offer and I have to confirm by Oct 11th. My OCAS has not been updated yet.. I am soo excited.... I hope you guys all get in.
Check your stu-view to see if your status has changed :)
Hey vwgirl55,
I know this may seem like a late reply but congratulations on the offer from George Brown :)! You are actually one of the first people who I heard got accepted so far actually.
I was talking to one of my friends who applied to Pratical Nursing also at George Brown with a 83 average, she told me when she checked her stuview, it says "Refused" I am guessing the offers are slowly being sent out now. Mine still haven't changed as it still says "No Decision"
Good Luck!!
vwgirl55 - Do you mind sharing why you chose to go to pre-health before applying for the RPN program? I am just curious. I was planning on doing pre health last year because I thought I could immediately go into the BcSN program. When I learned it only streamed you into RPN, I decided to not go as I already had all the requirements for the RPN program.
Hey there
I am sorry to hear you were refused by GB. I am glad you are not letting this stand in your way of your dreams. Stay focused on the prize. At the end of the day, as long as you pass your nursing exam, You get to become a Nurse, regardless of where you go to school :)
The reason I took the pre-health program was because back when I was in high school I didn't take math or sciences past grade 10. When I started looking into nursing, I did try to do the high school credits through the Adult Continuing Education Centres, but they made me do an assessment and believed based on my math and science marks I would have to start the program at the Grade 10 level for Math and Sciences, English. That route would have taken me a minimum of 3 years to get all the credits. The pre-health program allowed me to complete "the high school level credits" for Chem, Bio, English and Math within a year. I understood that I couldn't use them to get into university, however the Pre-health, RPN and then bridge to RN, will still be shorter to become an RN than the other route.

Alexis04,
I am on the same page as you, I haven't seen any update on my Stuview.
Your friend got refused at GBC with a 83 average, I assume my chances will be slim to get accepted since my average is almost the same as hers even though I have already decided to go and accepted Georgian last week :)

klovesedamame,
I just want to let you know you can actually do the Pre-Health program and apply for the Georgian/ York Collaborative BScN Program. They accept college prep programs such as the Pre-health program!
Thank you both for getting back to me at Pre-Health. There are still open spots for January at George Brown so I have put in an application. I also but in an application for Pre-Health at Fanshawe. I had NO idea that the pre-health for GBC would work towards the BScN program at Georgian/York. I'll definitely keep that in mind. Fanshawe's pre-health program lets you apply to the fanshawe/western BScN program as well, so lots to keep in mind. I'm still very undecided about St. Lawrence as the program is very different than that of the schools I was interested in, so if I get into pre-health I feel a lot better taking that route.
Thanks for the support guys! Really means a lot!!

Jrcm0218 - don't give up hope yet! I was on a waitlist for Fanshawe (different program) a few years back. I was really defeated about it and felt like there was no point to keep trying, and voila, two months later I got a spot in the program! It can happen!
Did you do pre-health at George Brown or anywhere else? Or are you coming right from high school/different program. Someone in this thread has gotten an acceptance, but they came from the pre health program, so I was just trying to piece together if they are just looking at pre-health applicants first and then the whole pool.
