Ivy Tech Thread

I beefed up my summer course load and plan to take MAT 118, COM 102, and IVY 104, all online. Anyone else taking these?

Here is another example of how crazy my micro teacher is. She starts going over what our test will be like. Someone asks the format and she says it will be multiple choice. OK...we think. Then she starts writing on the blackboard 20 multiple choice, 20 truth or false, 20 matching, 20 definitiiions. We are like WTH you just said it was multiple choice. Then she explains it iis multiple choice. We are all like arguing with her. She is getting mad. So we back down. She then goes on to explain her "multiple choice" definitions. She wants us to put a one or two sentence definition to a word that gives us. Now mind you this test is over 6 chapters. There are over 120 keys words for most of these chapters. We are like this is so not multiple choice, but we all kind of give up. She senses how upset we are so she drops the number down to 15 instead of 20. WooHOOO! But of course we are now in for another lecture about how she refuses to spoonfeed use etc... how we are adults now...blah! Then we get an email from her that says I dropped the definitions from the test then at the end she type HAPPY in capital letters. So we are now in the next weeks class and she says I have a little surprise for whoever had the highest score on last week's assignment. So much for thinking we are adults right!?! Well I had the highest score so I got the prize. You guys are going to laugh your @sses of when I tell you what it was. She gave me a nursing patch from PURDUE! roflmao!! She is freaking crazy. I brought it home and shoved it in my husband's face, and said remind me what school do I attend? He just shook his head when Itold him the story.

Well thanks for letting me vent! I needed that!

and...Kgle I don't think you will have to deal with her unless you take classes in the Kokomo or Lafayette regions.

Oh... and I just remembered one last kicker. She told the lab class before us that she had some old nursing books she wanted to sell for 20 bucks! LOL! She was an OB GYN and quit supposedly because her heart is for teaching. Her dh is a very busy neurologist. I guess she really needs that $20 LOL

I'm not liking Micro either, mainly because of the instructor. She is also very unorgnanized and that alone drives me crazy. But, she is also contradictory all the time and always unprepared. For example, she goes off on a fellow student when they ask a question about something saying she should have read the text yada, yada then goes off on a tangent about how we are in college now and should be responsible and should not have to hold our hands held blah, blah, blah then she asks to borrow my neighbors textbook because she has forgotten to bring hers. There are so many other things I could go on and on. I just really can't wait for this class to be over.

On the bright side I am loving my nursing instructor. She is so laid back and down to earth. She makes things easy to understand and is very considerate of time and other commitments. We will have her for all of our classes for the next two years so I am so glad that I like her so well.

I got a 100 on my second pharm test! yay! and that is after having surgery two days before. The surgery went well and I'm recovering nicely. Vicodin is my friend LOL!

Good luck to all of you who are waiting for letters. I hope you all get in!

wow! congrats on the pharm test!! now, i'm not asking for you to tell me whats on the test, but do you have any advice on what is the best way to study for it? what should i focus on? the anxiety is getting the better of me!!!

good luck to those still waiting for their letters :)

Well, after reading months worth of posts here, I decided to create a log in to this site today. Much of what I've read has been both informative and depressing at the same time.

I'm a male who's 36 with a wife and 3 kids. I'm like a lot of guys who have recently decided to pursue nursing as a new career. My background is in business, making the transition for me over to nursing a bit more difficult. My wife has been an RN for 12 years now, and has helped me along the way with questions I've had.

I scored 197 and applied to Ivy Tech Lawrence for Spring '09. I'm certain I won't be selected to the ASN track, so I'm just hoping that my score will at least get me into the LPN program, and I'll attempt to transition over to the RN track later.

ANP 101 & 102 = A's

PSY 101 = A

ENG 111 = B

Region = 3

TEAS = 84

------

197

Not sure what the cut off will be this time around, my guess around 204. If I don't make the LPN track, I'll re-do ENG111 for an A, and/or apply to more than one campus. I know the Lawrence campus can be more difficult to get into based on several factors, but does anyone out there have any incling as to whether or not a 197 "could" get me into the LPN track there?

Wecome Chubsta!!!

Don't count yourself out. The numbers are only important for the semester you are applying for. Plus everyone says that there are less applicants for spring. You still have a shot! and I would think with a 197 you most definately would get in the LPN.

There are 3 guys in my ASN class all middle aged or a little more. It is becoming common to see guys in nursing. Our guys are great.

You are lucky to have a wife who is an RN. It will be like having an inside track at your convenience. Good Luck to you!

Hey nn-

Do they SEND out the letters on the 30th, or are we supposed to receive them on the 30th? Do you know if letters are sometimes sent out before the deadline?

I have seen one post on here in recent days from tlofflan saying that they received a letter informing them that they were picked for an alternate spot for LPN in Bloomington. But that is the only person on this site that has posted any info of that sort recently. Which campus are you waiting for?

Good luck to you.:anpom:
