Ivy Tech Spring '10 Applicants

U.S.A. Indiana

Published

This is the "Not In" thread, or for anyone that's planning on applying for Spring Semester by the Sept 1st deadline.

We need love too! :loveya:

My Boring Stats:

A's in prereq's except ANP 2...taking that class now.

Horribly embarrassing TEAS at 76, still have two more tries. (Which is why I'm taking math and phys sci this summer. lol)

Hope to get into the Bloomington or Terre Haute programs. (Yay! Greene county gets region pts at both. lol)

Currently frazzling myself out with 5 online classes

It's nice to meet you....whoever you are....

Also, does anyone know what items on the list are the ones that they said can supposedly ONLY be bought in the package? I find it hard to believe that Ivy Tech is so special that they have something that no other school or retailer uses or sells. I've seen the discs on ebay, and any online retailer will have new editions of books available. So, unless the list is not updated and we really need newer editions than what it says, I'm thinking of just buying stuff off ebay/wherever else. What do you all think? (and any opinion from our resident Nursing School Expert, Lennonninja!)

I am officially a "D" gal. Community for clinicals with Monday off. WooHoo!

Chris, I am such a chicken, I am just going to buy the package. I am sure you could probably get everything you need using other methods.

I show nothing yet. Over half the spots have been scheduled though.

We must suck Chris, I still have nothing either and it looks like I will be doing my clinicals in Greenfield based on openings and my location. Looks like they are trying to fill certain clinical sites and then move on. Hancock Regional still has almost all the spots open.

LOL Carlos! Actually I wouldn't mind Hancock, on the A schedule because I like that schedule best. A little further of a drive though. I'd prefer Thurs clinicals because my son has group music lessons on Fridays at 3:30 and I'd rather not have to try to get the whole group to reschedule that (it's a kid rock band so they all have to be together for the lesson). Of course since I prefer Thurs clinicals, I'm sure I will get Fridays. I wonder if they let people switch if people find other people they could switch with.

Looking at the available openings I am guessing I will end up with a Hancock B schedule. Those would be the odds I think. If I am reading it correctly you with either get the A or B if you are put in Hancock.

They really have gotten a lot accomplished with them today. I hope your schedules go up sooner rather than later!

I am listed as being a nursing major now instead of undecided. That is a plus. I am part of the program according to the computer!

LOL, mine still says stuff about Anderson campus/Medical Assisting since that I where I first registered and told them I was going for. Then I changed my mind on both campus and program :nurse: My transcript does say Indy ASN too though. But I wish they'd clean out the other crap!

ho hum, nothing yet. . . this waiting is almost as bad as waiting for the acceptance letter!

Lennon, question for you: our book list has Stedmans Medical dictionary for health professions and nursing. I already own Mosby's dictionary of Medicine, Nursing, and Health Professions that I bought for Med. Term. class last year. Do you think I could use that one instead of buying the Stedmans? I mean, a dictionary is a dictionary, isn't it?

I wouldn't see any problems with that. I mean they're just for personal reference anyways. Mine lives in a drawer and has only come out like once, but some people use their dictionaries a lot. I guess I'm just too lazy ;P

The only time you might see something that you can only get through Ivy Tech is like a coursepack or something specifically bound together for the school. If you can afford to use your own money and not wait for student loans I'd say totally get the books wherever you can find them for the cheapest!

I did end up buying a Nursing Care Plan book of my own even though it wasn't required. It's been *extremely* helpful so far too. If your school suggests one particular one, I'd go with that, but our campus didn't. I bought the one that my Med Surg teacher really likes and once I figured out how to use it, it's pretty awesome actually! I got this one - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0323048269/ref=ox_ya_oh_product

Thanks Lennon. That book is not on our list, but there is one by Carpenito-Moyet (for Indy campus anyway).

I think I'll go to Border's sometime just to look around at what all else it out there.
