Hi Everyone!
I'm looking for a little bit of advice....I've recently been offered 3 nurse externship positions for this summer. One is on a busy cardiac telemetry unit, another one is on a neuro unit and the last one is on a surgical unit. I'm having a bit of a dilemma because all three of these positions are great opportunities for me where I know I will be able to learn a lot!
I graduate from nursing school in one year. I know that I am interested in working in a fast paced environment and am leaning towards eventually becoming an emergency room nurse but am still unsure. Does anyone have any advice or feedback on what I should do from your own personal experiences? Any comment is appreciated! :)

Are those opportunities offered by the same hospital? I wonder if it would be possible to do a little bit of both? If not, personally, I would try the surgical unit. However, you should know better what you lean towards to.

Congrats on the offers! If you're interested ingoing into ER nursing, any of those sound like great options. Are any of these units what the hospital is "known" for? If so- go with that one. If not, a way I make decisions sometimes is picking out of a hat basically. If I select one and my heart doesn't feel right when I read it, then I know I didn't really want it in the first place! (ps think good thoughts for me as I got accepted to an externship program but am waiting to hear back from 2 more as well!)
Thank you for the comment! I'm actually a nursing assistant at the hospital right now in the "float pool" which makes the decision even harder since I know everyone on each unit! I'll keep your comment in mind as I try to decide though, haha! :/ Congrats on your nurse externship program as well! That is awesome
That is a tricky situation. Maybe see where you feel the most comfortable? You would definitely see a ton of things on the surgical unit and care for a wide range of issues like in the ER.

I'd be partial to the cardiac tele myself, but it's all what you like, and depends on what your interest may be in the future, if you have an idea about that yet. I hate neuro and wouldn't even consider that, lol, but surgical and tele both are good for getting basic nursing skills down and--probably the most important thing--learning pt. assessment.
