IV Certification online course in CA

Published

My school requires me to be iv certified to be able to get into the RN program. I was wondering if there's anyone from California that knows where I can take an IV course online doing only lectures and exams. I plan to do the lecture and exams online then hopefully do the hands on lab in person at my school. Does anyone know any online schools where I will be able to do that? I need help please =[

I think the point is for you to get comfortable actually starting an IV. You aren't going to find a completely online course.

The plan is to do the hands-on IV at my school but I need to find an online course where there is only lecture and exam. I cant find an online lecture/exam course and was wondering if anyone knew a place where I can do that

have you asked the school? If they have this requirement surely they have recommendations.

I have been looking into becoming IV Certified too. I have not found any online class. I do like this list from the California Board of Vocational Nurses website.

I think you misunderstood the first reply. Either that or I don't understand what you mean by doing the hands on at school. If your program requires you to be IV certified, it is probably because they don't plan to have IV lecture or skills check off. Or it will be minimal. If that is the case, you will not get any hands on at school. Only in clinical. And trust me, you don't want a live person to be your first try. It's nerve wracking when the first attempts are done on a mannequin arm. Second, to be IV certified, you HAVE to have a checkoff or skills check of some kind. And online course that offers no actual hands on would be worthless. It would give you theory but no actual practice with the entire procedure. You can't be certified without practice and you can't get practice with your program until you are certified. Seems like you will need find and in person class. Especially because if your school offered the in lab hands on to accompany an online program, I'm sure they would tell you. How would the online program have any proof that actually did the hands on part?

The reason why i want to do the lecture/exams online is because my schools iv cert class exam is very hard and would prefer to do lecture/exam online. Then, just do my schools hands-on in my school. My school does provide both the lecture and hands-on

"Certification" courses are developed and administered as an entire curriculum (didactic + practicum). Unless they have a prior arrangement with your school to provide the practicum portion of the course, you will not be able to achieve a "certification" from only doing the didactic portion of a course.

It's a hard thing for many people to learn. What makes you think it would be any easier-- or ought to be, just for you?

If the school would accept an online didactic part of the program and then allow you to do the hands-on training with them, then they ought to have an acceptable program or two in mind. If they don't, well, there's your answer. Suck it up and do it with everybody else.
