Itt tech-Breckinridge possible shutdown

I need advice/guidance. Im currently enrolled in Itt tech Breckinridge school of nursing class of 2017. I'm completing med surg 1 next week. In the media today I've read several articles stating Itt may be shut down because they have lost all federal funding and are no longer able to accept new students who need federal aid (so basically they'll go into bankruptcy). Last month we lost our Dean. Our assistant dean resigned yesterday. And the recruiter's last day was Monday. Their credits won't transfer. Our school has no update for us and states they are awaiting the director to take the next step-whatever it may be. The articles online state the schools would refund the money we paid or set up an agreement with a school. The school itself has not commented on this. Im a little upset we weren't notified and had to find this out from the media and a year has been wasted of our time if no school accepts our credits. Last thing I want to do is start over. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

I would start looking for a new program ASAP- looks like the writing is on the wall. Even if the credits you currently have won't transfer, would you want to take the risk of spending more time in courses that also won't transfer should the program be closed? I would also avoid for-profit programs and ensure that any program you apply to is approved by the state BON and accredited by ACEN or CCNE. The ITT website states "The Breckinridge School of Nursing is part of ITT Technical Institute, which is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools."- this is not a program accredited by the two national bodies that offer accreditation specific for nursing programs.

OP- I am very sorry for you and the thousands of student like you who are going to be left holding the bag on this. But the honest truth is this: you have to start again from zero. Those of us on the boards here who have been warning student for years about for-profit school take no pleasure in being right. But it's been brewing for a long, long time- and you, unfortunately, are the 'collateral damage' of this greedy institution.

You will have to start over. I'm sorry, but you will. This is why it is important you research your school.

Going to a for profit commercial school may seem like the easiest, quickest, way to become a nurse. Unfortunately, there is no easy, quick route in nursing. Hopefully, they will work with you on the massive amount of money that you will owe the government.

You are right there is no easy or quick way for a nursing degree. This program is def not easy and it takes 2years as does any other ADN program.

Look, their programs will admit anybody, anybody. They take your money. They take more money than you will ever get back in income. Then, they act like jerks throughout the whole program to make it seem hard. Their NCLEX pass rates are hideous. That's why they are closing and were never accredited. So no, their program is not hard. The instructors and directors are just jerks.

If their program was hard and taught adequately, their pass rates would be good and their students would obtain jobs after graduation. Why do you think there are so many class action lawsuits? Be cause the very few that do get their license cannot find employment because nobody hires their graduates.

Again, I'm sorry you got sucked into a subpar program by their used car salesman admission officers, but you will have to start over. Hopefully, with a reputable school.

Also please cite your reputable sources if you have not been in the nursing program at Itt tech. I've call numerous hospitals in the area who indeed will hire Itt grads. I even worked for a facility that does.

You came here asking for advice; just because you seem to not agree with that advice doesn't mean it's not valid.

This article lists NCLEX pass rates- ITT Tech Breckenridge, with the exception of 1 campus, is below the national average for first time NCLEX pass rates. Most of those campuses are far below the national average.

A school with abysmal pass rates demonstrates that it is subpar whether those commenting have attended or not. In fact, that is one number that students should be checking when they are looking for schools to apply to.

I went to a private school for my LPN. None of my credits transferred and my school closed as well. It was far from easy and had decent NCLEX pass rates, but had other issues.

I'm sorry you are going through this. When I first went to school I did not fully understand the difference between the accreditation. I was the first real college graduate in my family.

Don't beat yourself up. Just accept that you are most likely going to have to start over. You'll be ahead of the game though, with all of the knowledge you have obtained this far. I'm back in school for my ADN and had to take most of my prerequisite classes again. It sucked, but now I'm past that and less than a year away from being an RN.

I just finished class Thursday and I am nervous. I completed the ADN program and I am praying to God that they hurry up and send my name to the Florida board of nursing. I also inquired about my transcripts I need to load up on at least 4 of them. I completed my preq's from a community college and got into the program and it did not work out. So I ended up at ITT Breckinridge. I have come this far and all I want is my name to be sent off to the state. Grades close on the 5th of September, and my name will be sent to Florida Board of Nursing.

I must say this and I'm only talking about my "program". I really was pleased with ITT-Breckinridge program at the Fort. Lauderdale campus. My Professors were excellent. I was able to get the skills and tools that I needed to make it this far and pass. The school is expensive but like I said I came in with preq's and I got a $25,000 scholarship. Therefore I won't be paying $50,000+ which I know is ridiculous for an ASN/ADN. I have about $13,000 in loans and I am cool with that. I wanted too attend another state university or college but once you Withdraw and or failed a science attempt it's really hard to get into one. That's how I ended up at ITT and pretty much a lot of students did to. I hate when I see people post "Poor unexpected Student" or believe me and my peers have no skills and didn't research. I did my research and to be honest at the time my school "Fort. Lauderdale" was in very good standing. Most of us are 2nd degree students or LPN's we are no less different than any other nursing student.

ITT corporate office made a big mess of things and some of my classmates may end up without a degree. I pray to God that they will make it through and finish there or at another program. As for me I'm praying that God will allow this school to

1. Send my name to the state so I can test for NCLEX. 2.Release my transcripts 3.Give me my degree.

I have applied to UTA so I can be locked into a BSN program. I have a good chance of getting in because again I have credits from my community college, and they do allow you start if you haven't taken your NCLEX yet. You do however need to pass it at some point before you are able to continue on.

This is just a big mess. I was so happy I finished and I can't even celebrate because of all this. I can't even sleep thinking about this. I just have to keep telling myself God didn't bring me this far to leave me. I pray for us all.

Every job posting I have ever seen says a nurse must have graduated from an accredited school. ITT is not accredited. Look at your local job postings. I have no idea where you live but in my area, they all state that.

Are you wanting me to cite a scholarly article here? Lol. When most people say that, they want a published source with numbers. My source on that is actual job postings.

And as a PP displayed, the NCLEX pass rates for ITT are horrendous.
