who issues the ATT?

My understanding is you now have to register with Pearson, pay your $200, then schedule your date for NCLEX.

if I remember rightly it should say on it Authorised to test (i think is the wording) If it does say that then go to pearson and book your test.

Your understanding is 100% right! Its the PearsonVue who sends the ATT. In other words, the BON makes you eligible to sit for NCLEX-RN and they inform your eligiblility to PearsonVue as well. NYBON wont send you the actual ATT. If you are already registered ($200) with PearsonVue, PearsonVue would have sent the ATT to you. (I dont know what would happen if you are NOT already registered with pearsonVue). If you read the NY BON letter carefully, you can see that NY BON is saying "you may now sit for NCLEX - RN". Meaning, "We have made you eligible. Go, register at PearsonVue, get your ATT and take the exam".

This is exactly what happened in my case. In my case, since I was already registered with PearsonVue by the time NYBON made me eligilbe for the exam, I got my ATT email from PearsonVue on the same day NYBON made me eligible. After couple of days it came on regular post as well.

BTW, I assume in your case what happened was, you were waiting for the ATT to come and then register at PearosnVue. Its not the exact way it works. First you register at Pearsonvue with $ 200 and they will mail you the registration confirmation. This registration confirmation is the one that clearly says in bold letters that this in not your ATT. Thats true, thats just your registration confirmation or in plain words, your reciept for the application. Then your Exam application just sits at PearsonVue until PearosnVue hear from NYBON (CAVEAT: if PearsonVue cannot verify your eligiblility with NYBON within 365 days of your registration, your application will be discarded and you lose your money $200 as well) . Then, Once the NY BON informs them internally that your application is accepted, PearsonVue would sent you the Original ATT thru postal mail and thru email.

Hi Everyone,

I have received a letter from NY BON saying my application has been accepted and I may now sit the NCLEX-RN. Is this the ATT letter? All the while I thought they send the letter to Pearson Vue and Pearson Vue sends me the ATT, then I can pay for the test. Will someone please tell me what is the next step to take? Many thanks!

Sorry, but you are incorrect. Only the Boards of Nursing may issue the ATT. This means that you have met all requirements for licensure in that state except for having completed the NCLEX exam. Pearson-Vue is only a contractor that at this time has the contreract for providing the NCLEX exam in centers around the world.

When you send in your money to Pearson-Vue and recieve a letter from them, in bold letterw right across the paper it states that this is not your ATT letter. You are applying to Pearson-Vue for the exam, you are just making a payment for the exam, just like you would purchase anyhting else over the internet.

BON does not send the ATT.

Its the PearsonVue who sends the ATT once the NYBON internally informs the PearsonVue that the candidtate is eligible to sit for the NCLEX Exam.

All of us, who have recently taken the exam OR recently recieved the ATT know the simple fact that, its the pearsonvue who sends the ATT. I would have pasted the ATT I myself recently got from PearsonVue here, but I cannot do so since it contain lot of personal info.

As I mentioned in the previous post,

1) Immediately after registering with PearsonVue One will recieve a letter from PearsonVue, saying they have received the amount. Its just the receipt and NOT your ATT. They mention it clearly in bold letters.

2)Later, once the BON notifies PearonVue internally that the candidate is eligible to sit for NCLEX, you will receive the ATT from PearsonVue. This one will have ( I am looking at the one I got from PearsonVue)

a) PearsonVue Logo in it

b) In HUGE BOLD LETTERS it will be written "AUTHORIZATION TO TEST"

Yes, I applaud your intentions to clear things up and help foreign nurses. Not to mention, all of us have same intentions.

This myth was floating around these forums for a while and I wanted to clear this because one of my friend had a tough time till I clear this to her. My friend was misinformed from this site that BON sends the ATT. (Like everyone else, she also got lot of valuable information from here as well), She was waiting to get the ATT from BON and then register at PearsonVue. Her point was, "why shud i register and park my money at PearsonVue without ATT?". By the time I told her and convinced her (with all possible official website links and referrals) that its the PearsonVue who sends the ATT, she had wasted 5 weeks just waiting for the (never to come) ATT from BON. Luckily, she could clear it before the retrogression began and filed her papers just before Dec 30 2004.

Well, its not such a big deal WHO sends the ATT. X or Y ? Who cares ? And also someone who follows all the required steps promptly may not even notice who had sent him/her the ATT.

But its very (verY, veRY, vERY, VERY) important for someone who just wait for the ATT to come and then register at PearsonVue. The bottom line is, one will NEVER recieve the ATT if they dont register with PearsonVue.

Haing said that, Its not TRUE that the "rules have changed and just very recently". This (PearosnVue Sends the ATT) is the rule atleast from August 2004 because I recieved my ATT from PearsonVue on Aug 2004.

And for the person who started this thread, Please post here where did you finally got the ATT from.

Then rules have changed and just very recently. The authoriaztion ultimately resides with the BON. Pearson-Vue is only a sub-contractor working for them. They have no actual authority, and can only do what the BON says.\

But this can be very confusing for many of the foreign nurses all over who read this, they think that they apply to Pearson-Vue, they do not. This is what I have been trying to clear up. Pearson-Vue is essentially just a clearing house for the individual BONs.

You have no idea about how many e-mails that I recieve over this, the nurse only hears ATT and Pearson-Vue, nothing about having to apply to an actual BON first.

Well I know that must register with Pearson-Vue!!!! And I didn't know that before :chuckle
