I am wondering why this recruitment continues when nurses in the US are getting laid off, and some hospitals are closing.

Glad you stated specifically where in America you're looking to move. America runs from Canada all the way down to Argentina/Chile. Anyway, different areas have different range in salary or nurses. Some areas in Texas are cheaper to live than others and where you're paid more as a nurse, it's going to be more expensive to live. So it off sets in the end. I've visited Texas several times and it's a nice place if you like that type of weather. I can tell you that it gets pretty warm in Houston, and also around the border towns. Up north in the Dallas area you'll find strange weather, one day it's freezing cold and the next day it can be scorching hot.

Have you already got your paperwork done & Visa approved then? If not have you read about retrogression?? No agency should be recruiting without telling you that it could easily be 5+ years before you get a look in! Add the recession into the mix & it could be longer.

Pay relates to living costs, California is a more expensive place compared to Texas.

thanks latinaVN for reply, i think your reply is the only one relevant to my question,..many thanks... to others i did not ask about processing papers or retrogression in america besides i'm employed full time here in England @ a rate of about $30/hour...so I,m not bothered when will i start there. I just wanted to try working there..a bit fed up of cold weather here if I did not like it Texas i can still go back here in England...long live the queen...

I stayed in England for a little while, I couldn't stand the weather, too cold and too dreary.

Texas vs California - Houses and cost of living is much cheaper in Texas. The pay difference between Texas and California sounds reasonable.

Texas is a pretty good place to live, and we have not really been hit by the bad economy that the rest of the USA has been hit by.

House prices are not falling, lots of work here.

Weather in Dallas is pretty good year round. December thru February kinda cold and cloudy, but the spring summer and fall make up for it.

All posts were relevant as without a visa there is no way you can work in the US, retrogression means several years waiting. Canada can take several months and is colder than the UK. South America well you will still have to sort out a work visa etc.

When questions are asked replies will reflect info that is important to note, if not for you, then for others. Retrogression is of real significance to anyone thinking of going to the USA, as is the current economic climate.

Agencies are known for not giving the full picture & people who have been on this forum for a long time know that well. The threads are also read by many people who don't always post so replies take that into account as well.

I'm a filipino now British,working as a charge nurse here in England on acute hemodialysis on one the University hospital here.I was recruited by satellite healthcare in austin texas just waiting for my interview at embassy right now. just want to know if anyone knows the company , are they ok, my starting my salary is $26 but my friends whom they choose california , they're starting salary was around $35-38 eventhough they are not charge nurse, .....Did we get a good deal?..and can anyone tell me if its nice to live in texas....

Hello Kabayan. To answer your question, NO.

Not a good idea moving here and definitely not a wise decision. Better stay where you are and be free from the sufferings USA is experiencing now.

And also, just FYI, retrogression is set. It would be way hard for you to come over here eventhough you have a job offer from the company that your saying. Job offer is but an offer. It does not in any way consitute a visa of any kind, and again Obtaining a visa is way too hard because of retro. For that, it's not worth moving in America... :confused:
