Is there any way for LPNs to work abroad??

I have about 6 months left before I finish my LPN course and i'm thinking about going on to get my BSN in Ireland or somewhere in the UK. I can't seem to find any info. on if an LPN degree is valid in any other country but the US. Anybody have any info??

Canada has LPNs, but the education and training is different.

The LPN education completed in the U.S. is not usually accepted in other countries, and you'll need a minimum of an RN-BSN in order to work abroad as a nurse. These other nations don't even accept our ADN/diploma RN levels of nursing education.

In Canada, the LPN program is now 2.5 years in length and a few new things have been added, don't know what they all are but one thing I do know is that now LPN's are learning to flush central lines. The RN program is now a four year program unless you bridge over and then it may be anywhere from 2 - 3 years. I am not saying the programs in Canada are any better or worse, just differing lengths of time to complete the educational requirements.

You should look into getting hired on as a healthcare auxilliary over there. The UK stopped training SEN's (roughly our LPN) back in the '90s and the govt. gave them the option of upgrading to SRN at the time.

So from what I understand they have unlicensed staff (care aides) and RN's now. The care aides seem to work their asses off much like a PN, so try asking at the local hospitals over there or even on the UK thread here.
