K) CONTINUING EDUCATION
Have you completed 30 hours of approved continuing education within the 2 year period immediately preceding
expiration? (You may be randomly selected for an audit for your continuing education) ___ YES ___ NO
this continuing education can be obtain online with corresponding fee. better check it first with the NM bon if it is credited with their standard. training cant be accepted as work experience since what is really being asked on the renewal application is employment status and training is not in the choices.
hope this helps..:loveya:
I would check with the BON of NM.
I wouldn't think so. As a USA nurse, all CEUs must be through an accreditted agency that is acceptable to the BONs (usually accreditted by the ACCN, a state oraganization, or by a certification group like the OCN for oncology nurses.) This insures that the education is "legitimate" and meets the BONs' requirments. Most states will also allow college nursing education classes as these most meet certain national standards for education.
Internships/in hospital "training" is more iffy. Most USA nurses can provide evidence of hours of work, new grad internship hours and these are not considered CEUs. And while, there may be hours and hours of hospital education, unless the facility has sent the required forms to a acceptable accrediting agency that certifies that they meet standard, they are usually not acceptable.
Thanks again for the replies!!!!
I guess I have to look for online CEUs to complete my renewal requirements. I also want to ask if I could take all the 30 contact hours requirement online? And also, since my NM license expires on March 31, 2009, when should my CEUs expire? I browsed some CEUs online and I found some that expire around April 2009, would this be alright? or I should look for CEUs that expire in 2010???
Thanks!!! Really appreciate all of your help!!! Have a great day!!!
You can find The New Mexico BON rules on CE's in this document link (jump to page 9 section 16.12.2.11): http://www.bon.state.nm.us/pdf/rules_part2_new.pdf
Since you are still in the Philippines, your best bet is on-line CE credits recognized or accredited by any State BON's in the US, any US national organization such as ANCC (American Nurses Credentialing Center), or any US professional association such as AACN (American Association of Critical Care Nurses), ONS (Oncology Nursing Society), ARN (Association of Rehabilitation Nurses), etc.
You do not submit actual certificates of CE's to the BON when you renew. However, you may be subject to a random audit and can lose your RN license if your CE credits are found to be unacceptable.
this link will help a lot...
it has an online seminar w/c has CE hours. all you have to do is to pay first online. it is accredited in the US. This site is the one my auntie, USRN employee, uses.
read the site for more info

Hello!!!
I have a New Mexico license that will expire next year. I am now undergoing training in Philippine General Hospital (APCN). This is accredited by PRC for 960 hours since this is for 6 months. Could this be valid to satisfy my continuing education requirement of 30 hours for New Mexico? Are other seminars of training in the Philippines valid for CE? Or do i have to take CE online?
Thanks for the reply. Have a great day!!!
