Is it ok to pursue masters degree even without work experience?

I know it is better if one has work experience. But the thing is, the application process waiting time in hospitals nowadays is 1-2years. I am now in the stage of waiting for 1-2 years after applying to multiple hospitals. (Oh yeah, I have also finished the many required trainings already.) So, I am thinking, instead of doing nothing at home, is it ok to just purse masters degree just to keep my career going forward, and not be stagnant.

I know it will be hard, but I am the type of person who would rather have a hard time than to have no time at all. But my primary concern is: Will I be able to keep up with those people with work experience? Or is pursuing graduate school without work experience not worth the trouble at the moment?

Thanks.

I know a couple of friends who are taking masters in the Phils without much exp other than few months of training. As of now they don't have solid exp as well and they find job hunting as tough as new grads too. But the thing is, at least they're opening more doors for themselves (they can work part time in a doc's ofc while taking masters, etc or expand to admin jobs for the future). If you have the resources and you can commit to it, why not? God bless!

Can't have nursing admin jobs without work experience.

Just my 2 cents. :)

In my own opinion, taking up masters would be ok, provided that you will not be taking Nursing Administration as your major. Because you will not be able to appreciate the concepts in Nursing Administration if you dont have any experience in hospital. But if youll be taking clinical majors such as, Med-Surg, MCN, Community or Psychiatry, i think it would be fine if you dont have any work experience :)

Ideally it would be to your benefit if you have a few years actual nursing experience prior to pursuing a graduate nursing degree.However with the work situation being poor at this time, getting a higher degree would be the only logical way for anyone to do while waiting for this economy and job situation to change. bets being a drunk , useless or worthless?

I'm also planning to take up master's degree but I'm looking for a school/univ that has schedules during weekends only since I'm currently working on a graveyard shift during the weekdays. Any schools that you could suggest?

St. Paul Manila.. offers MAN program where in classes are only during weekends.

Adamson University will have their MAN program as well starting June 2011;

its hard to impart knowledge with others when u havent experienced it yet.

How about UST or UERMMMC? Do they have classes during the weekend? I know being a graduate student is kinda difficult especially if you're working at the same time. I don't want to waste money since I'll be the one spending for my studies. That is why choosing the school that suits my work schedule would be better (also if the fees are cheaper). Kindly suggest as well if you have any idea about the fees. This would really help. Thanks!

> Try inquiring at Concordia College Manila. The Graduate School offers Master of Science in Nursing Class every saturday. For full load (12 units) earliest schedule is 730 am and latest would be 9 pm. For the next term, I believe enrollment is ongoing, classes will start on June 11. 2011
