Is my net score wrong?

Published

I really need someones help before I call ERI and inquire. I didn't do that well on the reading portion of the NET. I started looking and I really can't see how they came up with my horrible score. I do the same calculation on the math and I get the same number they do.

If any of you have your NET scores handy please help! There were three sections on the reading portion, Inference, main idea, and predicting outcomes. Next to these are the percent you got correct. If you could add up those percentages and divide by 3, do you get the same overall score? By their calculations I got a 55% on the reading comprehension, and if I calculate the reading score as I did for the math if get a 61. Its not much better but it gives me a better chance on getting into a program. I am taking it over again regardless but would really like to know I didn't completely bomb the reading portion.

Thanks

Jacob

I didn't take the net....I took the nat.

That being said, the disconnect could be that the 3 sections could be weighted differently and that would account for the lower score.

I thought about that and am still wondering if that is the case. Which is why I want someone that took the net to see what number they come up with. If they get a different number than they are weighed differently. It that case I can find out which section is not worth as much as the others, and I will not worry too much about those as much. I personally don't think that is the case because the proctor said the score is based on the number of questions you answer correctly. Why would they think that finding the main idea is more important than predicting outcomes, its all reading comprehension.

One section I received a 47% and I can only assume that is is out of 100%. It wouldn't make much sense if it was out of 200% or 110% would it?

Thanks for your reply though.

Hmm..I never thought about that. I have my scores on me and I did what you said to do..I averaged my math skills..and they do come out correctly..as 86%..but when I did my reading comprehension..it was off by a point.

Maybe I should call ERI as well???

I have taken the NET test twice. Your reading comprehension score is calculated by adding all 3 sections (predicting outcomes, inference, and main ideas) and then dividing by three to get your "actual score" for the reading comprehension portion of the test. Same with the math section. Once you have those 2 scores you, you add them together, divide by two, and come up with the most important score, your "composite score". My reading comprehension scores were off by 1 point as well (got an 80.6 by my calculator but a 79 on the test-on the reading). But, when I add the 2 scores (overall math and reading together / 100 + 80 divided by 2= 90 composite score) I got an actual higher rounded up score by .5%. I think it all has to do with rounding off the figures. Let me know....

Hope this helps..... :-)

Ok that really does help. Did you care enough about that one point to call them and have them correct it? My score is 6 points off which actually put me into a more competitive range.

Again I didn't do well on the reading but I'll give my scores anyway. I made a 100%, 47%, and 36% on the three sections. They gave me a 55% for the reading comprehension but 183/3 is 61 not 55. Is my math incorrect?

Anybody have any advice on this? I'm worried they are not going to correct this error.

If I was you, I would definitely call. I may not call for my one point (even though 80 does sound better than 79 for some reason)..but 6 points..uh yeah..I would definitely call them.

Your printed score definitely doesn't sound right. What was you overall score for math and your final composite score.

Hey, don't be embarrassed by your scores, at all! The first time I took the NET I got a composite score of 71 ( 61 on the reading and 81 on the math). :-)

In regards to calling on the one point difference - even though it is off one point on my reading comprehension score, my overall composite score for the whole test was correct (that is the score that counts the most).......

Now, I do know that some schools have a minimum pass rate for reading and math. If your school does, then you need to make sure that your reading and math scores at least surpass that minimum.... :-)

Hey thanks everyone. I will call and see what can be done about this. I hope, truly hope, that they only screwed up the calculations on the overall and not messed up one of my three scores. like instead of me making 100% as the print out stated on inference, I actually made an 82 which would be what I would have had to of made to get the 55%. I guess I got a 50/50 shot on which calculation they messed up.

Wish me luck

Thanks again

Let us know when you find out!! Good Luck......:wink2:

Just talked to them and they said that the different sections are weighted differently. so? I guess I'm still mad about the low score. Actually had some happy thoughts for a few minutes.
