Nurse Corps Loan Repayment 2014!
Hello all. So I was thinking about applying for this program after I graduate NP school in December 2015. I was wondering for those who work in an under served area how does the pay differ than that from just a regular hospital or office. For me 60% of my student loans is a large amount but will I have to take a 20K pay decrease because I work in a place that qualifies for this program? For me this is not all about money but i want to be smart about where I go to work. Any info on pay rates would be grateful. I also want to comment on those who might not have received an award letter for this loan repayment program. Many of you might already know this but look at the public service loan repayment program. PSLR. It is for anyone that works in the medical field including RN's and NP's and that person must work for a government or a non-profit company. The good thing about the program is the amount of student loans is not calucated in the monthly repayments. It is only based on income. Whether you owe 90k or 600k the monthly payment will be the same. Also, you are only required to make 120 payments or 10 years worth and the rest will be forgiven. If anyone has any questions about this i'll be glad to help any way I can.

Clayton State Nursing Program
Im currently in my first semester at Clayton. All I can say is that its not terrible and it probably has the same problems other schools have. Most schools have entrance exams, the only one I know of that doesn't is Emory. I guess they can fore-go an entrance exam if someone is willing to pay 60K for a degree. Yes Clayton does have an exit exam, but I am guessing most people pass because they only have about 10% that fail out of the program. If you do your work study like you have never studied before and try not to bring attention to yourself, you'll do fine at Clayton. My 2 cents.

Thanks, I would like to know what books they want us to have. I prefer not to pay a premium at the book store. Anyone have any ideas?

TEAS Registration and ASN Applications?
The only thing I would make sure of is the version of TEAS you are taking. Right now, Mercer gives the 4.0 version and GPC gives the V version. Take Gwinnett, they make you take their exam only if you qualify for their program. If you take the exam somewhere else, they will not accept it. So by reading GPC's website, it looks like they are changing how they do things.

I am going to be a LPN!
I to live in conyers. I have a 4 year degree already and had to go back to school and knock out some sciences, and did that at GPC in newton campus. After a few months I finally got those complete and have applied to 5 nursing schools. I did not get into GPC because they look at the entrance exam more than anything. I personally didnt do that well on that test so I was not accepted. I have interviews at Gwinnett Tech and Clayton State this week. I also applied to Mercer University which is a great school but very expensive. The last on was Georgia Highlands college in Rome but they have a Marietta campus. They want SAT scores as their entrance exam but you are exempt if you have a Bachelors degree, so I dont have to worry about that. I will find out in the next couple of weeks if I get into the two schools that have shown interest as of now. Do you have any college credit?

I am going to be a LPN!
Yes the knowledge to do more is there and the jobs are so much easier to find. Although I dont know everything about LPN, I just know they are hired more at nursing homes, home health, and dialysis. Im know there is more I just dont know where else. There is a LPN school in Newton county and one in Griffin and some up north atlanta. There doesnt seem to be as many as RN programs. As for R.N, thats what I am trying to do. I have two interviews this week for schools. It is very competitive, so as you heard twice already make A's. Some programs offer a bachelors and some an associates. There is not a difference in pay or what you are allowed to do. The R.N. license is what is important, which is given by the state you are working in. However, one will need a bachelors in nursing or BSN, to go up to management or to go on to get your masters. Thats the only differences. If you do elect to get your associates in nursing or ADN, there are many online programs that allow to bridge from R.N to BSN in about a year so it is something you can do later. What area of Atlanta are you in? Jacob

Entrance into nursing school is the TEAS exam. Other than that you got the idea.

I am going to be a LPN!
I would totally agree with the reply. A's are the goal, the entrance exam is very big with GPC. Its not hard but study for it. Also consider other programs. Gwinnett Tech has a RN program, it all depends on where you live. Also really research the difference between LPN and R.N. There is more education involved which leads to more pay down the road. Good luck to you

Clayton State Fall 2010
Thanks, they did interviews last week as well. The instructors are the ones doing the interviews so you should be hearing from them soon. The person that called me did say that they are taking 60 in the Fall and interviewing between 70 to 75. So its pretty good odds. Good luck to you

As someone in the program would you recommend this book? Since I have to self teach I have to think of something. And it would be a great refernece while in nursing school.
