As a new LPN graduate I constantly here "Congratulations, we need more male nurses." & "As a man most employers will hire you on the spot!"..... But it has been my clinical experience that there was no one specific thing that could have been done better by a man than a woman. In fact I have been refused three times during my maternity rotation and was finally allowed to assess a woman who was post c-section, that happened to be a nursing instructor. (which was a better experience than the other students got but thats beside the point. Anyways, where is this big major need for more men in nursing? any ideas??
If a man truly wants to be a nurse then more power to him-the male nurses that you feel I 'put down" are the ones that only want to deal with the "cool stuff "but when it comes to feeding and cleaning up BM and such they really aren't interested (and no-I did not say that all male nurse are this way-but I know many that are) Sugar lips-you ain't fooling me,either....What will happen to nursing if men don't enter in droves and straighten us all out? I guess us gals are doomed to having little credibility .....The funny thing is I had no problem with men in any area of nursing-until you mentioned the credibilty issue...Your true motives are crystal clear to me.....YOU inferred that men entering nursing will lend us credibilty-that implies that we are lacking in it....-We certainly DO need all the qualified nurses we can get....we don't need men with their own agendas...."credibility" my eye....So-......I don't see the need to continue beating the horse-he's down and dead...
Sweet Cakes -- Truly hope the airing out of all your issues (the prior ones as well as these) has been therapeutic for ya.
In my very first post, I asked that you try to keep an open mind, not realizing all that it was already filled with. Jeepers creepers! So, so many preconceptions and personal assumptions in all your writings that it's tiring just wading through them to arrive at an iota of an argument on point that merits a response. (Makes me curious 'bout how that all got to be, and kinda sad.)
If you can, please take a careful and objective look at everything you've generously shared. With respect, think the horse you mentioned is in your noodle. Dump it and start driving forwards. It's never too late.
I really do wish you well, darlin'! :)
the best way to get men into nursing is what attracted me in the beginning decades ago, Back when nurses were wearing whites and caps and all, of course mini skirts were the thing so Nurses with miniskirted white uniforms just had me all in a Tizzy, so I went into nursing to meet all those cute little nurses, blondes, brunettes, redheads, when I chose to go into nursing I didnt think about money or credibility at all. Just beautifull women
