IS IT TOO DIFFICULT TO TAKE A & P 1 and CHEMISTRY 101 AT THE SAME TIME???

Published

Hi Everyone,

I was wondering if you could give me some advice. I am thinking about taking Chemistry 101 and Anatomy & Physiology 1 in the Fall. Do you think it would be too difficult and too much work to take both classes. I also have a family too. My kids are in school from 8 to 3 every day. I look forward to hearing your responses.

I took chem, A&P I and algebra all in one semester with a documented learning disability in math. I utilized all the resources that I could. I got a tutor for chemistry and established good relationships with each of my professors who were willing to set up appointments with me if I was having difficulty with a concept. I also utilized our learning disability department for both counseling and extended time for tests. Several break downs and bouts of tears later I ended up making the chancellor's list (all A's)!!! It was difficult but I did it! I was very devoted to my studies. So if I can do it, you probably can too. Good luck!

A&P I is usually considered to be the hardest of pre-reqs, with organic chem a close second (if that's required in your program. Our program gave more points in the admission process to A&P than "generic pre-requisites" like chem 101, so focusing on a good grade in A&P will pay off in the future. Plus, most of what you'll learn later is based on knowledge from A&P I and II, so learning as much as you can in these classes will make things easier later on.

Depends, if the chem is a survey type course for health students you should be okay, if it is a gen chem course for science majors (Bio, Chem, Engineering and so on), you may want to reconsider your course selection; however, it is doable provided you are comfortable with the basic concepts of chemistry and math.

It's definitely not too much for one semester, just keep up and study!

Is 8-3 pm daily m-f your study time or class attending time? They basically say for every unit of coursework estimate ~2 hours of study/work time per week. So if you're taking 8-10 units, do you have 16 to 20 hours a week available for studying? I think you can do it if you are duly motivated and have good time management skills!! :) Good luck!

I didnt know chemistry is a pre-req to A&P. Well Im taking A&P II and a gen/organic/bio chemistry class in the fall semester. I think you should be okay as long as you manage your time and have good study habits. It will also depend on the teacher you have. Some teachers like to make things more difficult than they have to.

I took chemistry and A&P II together. It really wasn't too hard. Maybe because I had already been through a semester of A&P so I knew what to expect from that class. But I also know people who struggled with chemistry while in A&P I because they're teacher wasn't very good. It really all depends on you and your professors I guess.

For those stating chem is a prereq for a&p it's not at my school..

we have chem 110 and anatomy

then after taking those two we could take physiology.

then comes micro

I am doing chem and anatomy this fall too. Hopefully as long as I lay out a study plan it should be doable. We can suffer through it together :)

Do you have any children, or do you work full time? Just curious.
