Is Marijuana a medicine?

I believe that that is somewhat correct...
HOWEVER, if it were a gov. policy to ban ANY thing that is used "off label" whether that be recreational, abused, or what have you, think of all the meds we would be without, and what a mess we would be in. There would be no:
laxatives
nasal decongestants
robitussin
schedule II-V meds
anesthtics
You get the picture, I know that is over-doing it but when it comes down to it if any drug has a potentially addictive/abusive property than it is scheduled. Just as there is a class of scheduled drugs that are banned and those that have classification for medicinal/addictive abuse and so on. THC is scheduled as Schedule I, why not move it down the list and help those that need it? It is not even as potent as codiene, oxycotin, demorol or torodol for that matter...it doesn't work that way. But it has been proven beneficial.
Medical Marijuana Reports
Marijuana's therapeutic uses are well-documented in modern scientific literature. The studies indicate that marijuana provides symptomatic relief for a number of medical conditions, including nausea and vomiting, stimulating appetite, promoting weight gain, and diminishing intraocular pressure from glaucoma. There is also evidence that smoked marijuana and/or THC reduces muscle spasticity from spinal cord injuries and multiple sclerosis, and diminishes tremors in multiple sclerosis patients. Patients and physicians have also reported that smoked marijuana provides relief from migraine headaches, depression, seizures, insomnia and chronic pain, among other conditions.
There is a NORML site on the web with a section dedicated to medicinal MJ use, legistation, studies and research that is where this quote hails from.
Here is a link and see for yourselves:
Don't smoke wacky weed, but it does work in ca patient for extreme nausea and for parkinson patient's, also glaucoma. I uses to have a cop to bring 2 joints a day to a dying patient, we had all sort of paper work to do but it helped the patient die a easier death. Dr orders were law then.
I can't wait for the day I can walk into the local seven 11 and ask for a pack of Marijuana light 100's..........oh Happy day, oh Happy daaaayyyy:roll
No, I used to do it way back in the day, but hate it now, but my sister used it w/ her breast cancer (illegally) and it really seemed to help her out.........Also Marinol used in nursing homes where I"ve worked before, seemed to work, but they hardly prescribe it..................
I dont know, nursie, I'm thinking maybe recreational MJ should be sold in state-run substance of abuse stores, something like the liquor stores are now in New Hampshire.(Vermont?) And I think they should be called SUBSTANCE OF ABUSE stores so that everyone knows up front what they're in for.Hey as long as youre an adult (25) it's your choice. Of course crack and garbadgecan meth are not available. How about a little cocaine laced wine for your 15th wedding anniversary? Or baked goods with ahshish and opium? Just the ticket for someone just passing their boards! All extraoridnarily taxed, too:smokin:

i agree totally. If it was legal and anyone could grow it, tea would be the best way to take it. For Rastafarian women this is the primary way that they use the herb.
I don't compare cigarrette smoking and smoking pot....they are apples and oranges totally.
and I totally think that pot definitely has some medicinal uses and could benefit pts w/ a variety of ways. Unfortunately I truly don't think that we will live to see the day that MJ is made legal or a "medicine" available by prescription in every state.
Those that make the laws will never see it as useful...only as a street drug.
It's sad that those who could benefit from it often don't get it.
and no...I don't smoke mj either...def not my thing... but believe w/ proper legislation and LAWS (much like dui laws etc) it could be introduced to society in a postive way....but won't happen...certainly not w/ the republicians in charge..LOL.

I didn't realize that. It must have a lesser effect when used that way. Marinol, though it contains THC, is not as effective as smoked marajuana for nausea associated with chemotherapy, so I imagine the same goes for the tea. My thought is, it is more a piece of the culture for the Rastifarians, than a recreational drug.
Nothing, asside from the substances that come from marajuana when it is smoked have been definitely proven to be harmful. This substance has received so much bad press. Too bad, as the potential for it's beneficial uses outweigh all the soft evidence against it. It has been politicized and villianized, which does us more harm than good.

It took me few minutes to figure out how to do it but I fixed your typo.
