No. I was a CNA when I was 18 and still a high school student. I also know people who don't have their high school diploma or a GED and are CNA's.

However, if you want to go on and be a nurse (LPN or RN), it is required.

Good luck.

Some school do require you to have a High School Diploma or a GED although its not required....

From what I have seen and heard, you have to have with a GED or a High School Diploma.

Good Luck!!

I guess it really depends on the program requirements. The community college here doesn't require a hs diploma or GED

Specializes in Level III cardiac/telemetry.

Both my CNA program and most of our local hospitals require HS diploma or GED. However, I believe if you are still IN high school they will waive this.

Specializes in CNA; LPN Student.

My CNA class required a diploma or GED. I know if you want to work as a cna, you have to have a diploma or GED.

Specializes in Oncology/Haemetology/HIV.

I wish that they did.

(But given the number of them that cannot add 240mL to 360mL, even w/ a calculator, I have my doubts)

Specializes in Med-Surg.

Not here in Florida.

We have a CNA who just graduated from highschool and was working as a tech her entire Senior year.

Specializes in Ante-Intra-Postpartum, Post Gyne.

I think it depends on where you get your training. If you want to go to the community college than you have to have graduated high school. But a bunch of the local 'rest homes' train their aids on sight so they can take the tests to become CNAs and they don't require any schooling.

Getting into a program is one thing, but getting a job might be more difficult. I've noticed that many of the hospital CNA openings around here require a HS diploma or GED. I'm not sure whether that's different in nursing homes though.
