Is it easy to take nclex in US but plan on maintaining Canadian residency?

Published

Hi, my name is shyrine. Im 22 years old. I graduated nursing in the philippines on may2011. I was supposed to take the board exam but our visa arrived before that happened. So in short, i wasnt able to take the board exam. Im now a permanent residence here in canada for 2 1/2 years. I went to College of nurses in ontario but it takes me a year and a half to process my papers. I heard that theyre not acknowledging the education you took in the philippines so you need to study 4 years again in order to be an RN. So i was wondering, if i take the nclex in us, how long its gonna take me to be an rn? Is it possible to take nclex there even if its been 3years since i graduated in nursing? Im willing to study but no longer than 4 years. Please, someone help me. Thank you.

Where are you planning on working? The NCLEX is only for licensure in the US. Have you applied to the CNO? They evaluate your education and eperience and make a decision. It won't necesarily take that long and I haven't heard of them requiring a full redo of the porgram. Why don't you try here first? best of luck.

Im planning to work here. I thought if you pass the nclex, you'll be able to work anywhere, guess im wrong. So, i think its better to wait for my application process. Thank you so much!

NCLEX is for working in the US. Apply to the CNO and they will tell you what you need to do.

I will, thank you so much for your advice:up:

I think your bigger problem is going to be that you didn't write the PRC exam. All provinces in Canada insist that applicants have passed the licensing exam where they received their education -at the very least. And that applies to other provinces in Canada as well. A nurse educated in Ontario can write the CRNE anywhere in Canada they want but they have to register in Ontario before they can register in BC, for example.

Moved to Nurse Registration.

All you can do really is wait for your application to be processed if you plan on staying in the country. Who knows what will happen in a few years when CRNE changes over to NCLEX however requirements will still be required for province just passing NCLEX in the US doesn't mean that you do not have to meet IEN requirements. Even Canadian nurses when moving province have to meet the new province requirements
