I am thinking about challenging the NCLEX-PN after a year of GN school, but I dont know if it is worth it because then I want to get a BSN..should I just sit tight in the program for the full 4 semesters? Or does it save time to challenge the NCLEX??

Take it, because you never know what's in your future. If you have the PN, you can work if you have to.

It doesn't save time. It just allows you to obtain a professional license so that you can work as an LPN/LVN.
In order to obtain a RN or BSN you still have to complete the rest of the program requirements of Gen-Ed and Core Nursing classes for the the degree before you can sit for the NCLEX-RN
Yep, no time saved, except that you can work if you need to. Plus you have the experience of taking the test so you know what to expect. It won't get you out of any classes.

So after completing one year of the nursing program, students have the opportunity to sit for the NCLEX-PN?
In some programs. Here, you have to be a GRADUATE before you can take the boards, so you have to do the paperwork at school first. Some programs don't have it as an option. If yours does, though, I'd do it.
