Hi
I currently at SMC but have already taken Anatomy last year. I just applied to the program March 2nd and am on the waiting list. it's about a year.
oh ok thats kool. imjust beginning my pre preqs...which professor did you take for anatomy? would you recommend it?
I took Professor Hill. It was a Saturday class from 9 - 3:30 with a 45 minute lunch break. I wouldn't recommed that particular class because it's too much all in one day, then you didn't have any communication with the professor for a whole week. So if you had questions you'd have to wait. It's better to take a class that twice a week for about 2-3 hours per class. I heard that Professor Geisbauer is good. I took her for Physiology not anatomy though.
Oh ok.wow you took that saturday anatomy class..congratss.. I could not do it.. I had to withdrawl the first two times, and that looks really bad. So i need to have an "a"..... I orginally took dr covitt.he is a nice man but my guess is that he is tired of seeing me.

Was there also an additional hour each week? I see that it says "arrange one hour" under all of the class times.

I took all my pre-reqs at SMC. dont worry about the "arrange 1 hour" thing. It means you are required to go to the Learning Resource Center and study for a certain number of hours, adding up up to an hour a week. But you can accumulate your hours whenever it is convenient for you. I took Chem 10, 11, 12, anatomy, physiology, micro, and speech at SMC.

At SMC you have to spend an hour a week in the Science Resource Lab. I had Reardon (sp?). Steer clear of him if you can, as he doesn't keep records of what he asked in the lab tests and gets angry if you challenge a question on either lecture or lab tests. Overall he's a very nice guy, however, so it's not the worst thing in the world if you get him.
I'm on the waiting list for the nursing program and was told there is a 2-3 semester wait. So, if all my other options fall through, at least I know I'm in somewhere. I took the bulk of my pre-reqs at SMC, and micro at West LA. As someone who already has a BA, spending two years to get my AA is not my ideal scenario, but it's a comfort to know there is always a way.
While I'm waiting for acceptance into a program, I signed up for pre-nursing courses at SMC including medical terminology, pharmacological aspects and drug calculations. At least my mind will be in it.
Thank you for this info. I also have a Bachelors degree, but missing some of the prereqs. I don't want to wait for another 2 years after I finish them to start the program...but I guess one thing at a time. I'm trying to get into one of the Anatomy classes for Spring. I'm a little late, but reached out to a couple of professors to see if they can grant permission. Not sure if it will work. Do you think I can take a chem class online? I found one at oregon state that includes online labs. It is General Chemistry and 5 credits which is the same as the one at SMC.
An option would be hybrid classes for Chem, but you will need the lab portion for most nursing schools.
You had to take all 3 of those chemistry classes for the nursing program??
Depends on which school you are applying to. A few require up to O-Chem, so it takes all of them to get there.
