IRSC Fall 2014 Hopefuls!

Published

Hey everyone! I know this is super early to be talking about the fall semester but I just got my denial letter for the Spring 2014 semester so I wanted to make this group for anyone that's applying or didn't make it in like me. I got a 109 score on my NLN exam which makes my total points for program 130. I took A&P I & Micro which accounts for my points. I would like to retake the NLN in 6 months & hopefully I can do much better. I'm currently enrolled in A&P II & plan on just studying my butt off for the nln in the process. Classes I have left before I'm done with all my "pre-requisites" are A&P II (which I'm currently in), Chemistry, and Nutrition. (which I plan on taking those in spring/summer). Maybe we can get a study group together eventually if anyone is interested! Best of luck to everyone! :)

When I went to one of the info sessions they mentioned 300 applicants for 70 spaces. So I'll prefer the odds on 150 ?

I'm really nervous because I didn't do as well on my NLN as I expected. I've been reading these blogs from past semesters to hopefully try to make myself feel better, but most people seem to get better scores than I did. My overall score (after mirco and AP) is 142 :dead:

The only thing keeping me positive is that there doesn't seem to be as many people on this blog as there was in previous semester blogs, so hopefully the application pool is smaller.

The lowest score I saw get accepted for Spring 2014 was an overall 149...but she was on the alternate list! I'm so nervous!!!

If you guys have any more info please please let me know!!! Anything to make me feel better while we wait! LOL

I did see that in the Spring people were getting acceptance letters after just 2 weeks from deadline!

Good luck to all of you! Hope to see you in the program :)

I try not to focus solely on the overall # I have, only cause my uncle tried to get in last semester (Fall 2013) & got denied. It seems they don't base it off of 1 main thing so it's really confusing. I don't remember his exact score but he had an overall of around 160 (did great on the NLN) & had taken a&p 1 but NOT mirco so I'm not sure if maybe that hurt his chances. He has over a 3.0gpa & is currently an EMT so i thought that would help his chances. & he got denied.

That's pretty scary. I thought if your score is high enough you are good to go. So the fact that your uncle had a high score and still didn't make it into the program doesn't exactly help make me feel less anxious :(

Not having micro could have had something to do with it because they changed the required prereqs last semester. I've always known them to accept people in the order of their scores (based off of Micro, AP1 and NLN).

Then once the background checks/ drug tests are done, they start accepting more alternates.

@ annasmum - I know that's exactly how i felt! I thought omg if he didn't make it than how in the world do i have a chance!? But I agree with Colive321 - i definitely think not having Micro hurt his chances the paper said you didn't have to have it (but I'm sure it greatly helps your chances) but don't stress! You never know!

I thought that Micro was a prerequisite for the program? I guess I assumed that since Micro is one of the only two courses that the college looks at for points. I never looked into it further since I already completed Micro; however, I would assume that your NLN must be pretty darn high to make up for that.

On a different note, my NLN score was updated to my application...so now officially starts the waiting game! Good luck to all of my fellow applicants!

From what I read in the packet, if you have your prereqs done your given "preference". What they mean by preference I'm not sure, but it could be you have to have a really high NLN to be considered, or your not considered at all, who knows?

I'm so anxious!!!

Spring 2014 semester found out 13 days after their deadline!

As soon as anyone knows ANYTHING..please post on here.

I'm sure I'm not the only one totally freaking out lol...

I'm checking my email daily lol

The days are going by so slow ! I applied last time and received my denial letter exactly 2 weeks later so hopefully we get them in a week

Suggestion. I hooked my IRSC email to my iphone email. It has put my mind at easy. It won't show messages already on the email account only new messages. Good luck!!
