hbo to premier presentation of the women's rights movement

in 2000, 23.6 million 18-24 year olds were eligible to vote. only 8.6 million of those eligible actually voted. every vote counts and as this year is another election year, it is a great opportunity to educate and excite those eligible voters who may be unaware of their hard fought right to vote and the true difference their vote can make.

on february 15, (susan b. anthony's birth date) at 9:30pm, hbo will premiere iron jawed angels,a recounting of the struggle of suffragists who fought for the passage of the 19th amendment. focusing on alice paul and lucy burns, the film portrays how these activists broke from the mainstream women's rights movement and created a more radical wing which used pioneering tactics of non-violence that were later used by civil rights movements. their courage, intellect, and tenacity pushed the boundaries of political protest to secure women's voting rights in 1920. watching this movie can serve as an inspirational catalyst to encourage people to get out the vote!

What an awesome movie! Made me want to burn my bra!! :rotfl:

Seriously, what a struggle women went through to give us the rights we have today. I have been a proud registered voter since I was 18 years old, mostly because of what I'd learned of the women's suffrage movement. This movie showed a lot of things that were mysteriously left out of our history books. What an eye opener.

I'll never be able to beat an egg without thinking of her....

I agree- fabulous movie

I was going to go to bed at 10 but I couldn't pull myself away.

I was also going to not vote since my beloved Dean didn't make it, but that's out the window now, how can you make a conscious decision to not vote after seeing this.....i wish I had learned this chapter of history sooner (not jsut the facts, but the passion that it took)

What an awesome movie! Made me want to burn my bra!! :rotfl:

Just don't forget to take it off first.

Whew! Thanks for reminding me! :chuckle

What REALLY got my goose was the cat fighting and bickering between C.C. Catt and her group with the others. One of the actresses said "I don't wan't to fight women". Kinda reminds me of how nurses fight amongst themselves....
