Involvement?

Just started in new home, could be heaven. Meets all my criteria regarding staffing, activities for residents, less regard to budgets etc... Big thing that impressed me though was one aspect of involving all residents in meeeting their faith. Having worked in a home where mass was delivered in the nursing home chapel each day, I thought there could be no no greater involvement - I was wrong! My new home has several 'meetings' each week and this religious service is held in the resident lounges but broadcast over the PA system to the whole home, so even those bed bound can enjoy the service. There is also regular visitors from the church. In a time in their lives, when many people either struggle with or embrace their faith, this is truly worthwhile.:balloons:

Sounds lovely except for one thing. Is EVERYONE in the facility of the same faith? If I were a Baptist,say, or a Methodist, I would be highly insulted and dismayed if I were forced to listen to a Catholic Mass broadcast over the PA system.

PS A facility here got cited because someone was singing 'religious' songs in a public room and one of the little old ladies said she couldn't move her chair and didn't want to listen.

Rest assured everyone in this home is of the same faith, it was built to cater for the needs of their religious community! When I worked in the catholic home though, we did have non-catholic residents who liked to attend mass on special days like christmas! We also had residents who were banned from mass because of unsociable behaviour. One man continually told the priest he was 'rubbish'.

Altho I'm not catholic, I grew up in a catholic family, and would LOVE to listen to that service were I in a NH.

I agree that it should be a choice, and that that lady should have been moved by one of the staff. I have worked in nursing homes that also have the sevice on the PA, I love it. The nice thing about this home, they had speakers in each room that could be turned off, so those that did not wish to listen did not have to.
