I still remember everyone in my class my last semester kept saying they sure hoped that light at the end of the tunnel wasn't a train!:lol2:. Keep in mind if you have made it this far you have proven yourself to the instructors and they aren't looking for "weak links" at this point. Good luck, I'm sure you'll do fine. Are you planning to stay in Al. when you graduate?

I will be staying in Alabama for a long while. At least 10 years!

Hello everyone. I am a male RN near Mobile,AL. I graduated with my BSN in '97 and worked until 2000 before leaving the nursing field. I recently finished my CEU's & renewed my license and am looking to get back into nursing. Okay, truth is I'm scared sh!t1ess about going back to work after being away so long. If anyone has any suggestions on what type of job would be best for someone like me, I'd sure appreciate the input.

Hello IJB and welcome back to nursing! Where to work depends on your personality. I have worked several different units but for the last five years in ICU and I now can't imagine working any where else. It is much more of a team effort there than any where else I've worked and I love the excitement of challenging pts. Good luck.

I am in my first Semester of my first year of Nursing in the ADN program at CACC in Childersburg. I have my first clinical coming up this Wednesday and I am terrified!!!!

Welcome Sandi! I hope you get over the fright soon. My advice on that is to face your fear head on while you have the luxury of an instructor at your back. Chose the difficult pts., try to get something new every time you go to clinicals, and volunteer to do proceedures when you can. It is the best way to insure that your instructor will always be close at hand and it will build your confidence in your skills.

I had trouble communicating w/ pts when I was in school. I told one of my instructors and she put me w/ every difficult to communicate w/ pt she could find (a guy w/ Down's, a non-english speaker, aphasic stroke pt,etc.). By the time I was done w/ that rotation there wasn't a soul I wasn't comfortable talking w/!

Good luck in school.
