How about a thread that will allow us to introduce ourselves to those who are new and the new students can do the same.

I am Stephany, 42, mother of 3 children, a son 22, a daughter 15, and a son 13. I am an LPN of nearly 11 years, and I am in my first semester of a five-semester rn program.

Care to share?

welcome! congratulations and all the best in school.

My name is Valerie. I am 32 and working in insurance. I have a BS in Zoology (graduated 10 years ago). I just got married and want to have children someday. I am bored silly with my job and want to move on to something more challenging, that actually makes a difference in the world. I worked in a hospital for 10 years and always thought about nsg school, but just never went for it. So, anyway, now I'm trying to find out how to get in nursing school and what to do next.

I would like some advice on what is my best route...should I get my ADN (probably wrong terminology there, sorry!), my BSN, or should I get the LPN and then go back for the RN?

It's nice to meet all of you. I hope I'm not too much of an outsider to join in. I love reading these threads.

Hi all I'm Tracy. I'm 31, married and have 2 boys ages 4 and 6. I have been a CMA for 10 years and am going back for my ADN. Unfortunately here there is a 3 year waiting list, so I am just working on my A&P, micro and all that jazz. Nice to meet everyone :)

Thank you for the advice and Birthday wish. I appreciate it.

I am still checking out schools. I have been to the BRN site so many times. I am thinking of LA Harbor college too. I am also looking at Mount St Marys.

I will see once I start getting pre-reqs out of the way.

I am trying to get into a CNA program to get me started and find work in field while going to school. I am hoping my sister will make it up here to go to school with me. We are planning to school together to keep each other uplifted. I am hoping to have a really good study partner when I start school. If not my sister hopefully I can make a wonderful dependable partner to study and make it through school with.

Well enough of my talk I have to get out of here. I will be back in a little while.

Take care

Hi all!

My name is Whitney, 36 and married w/4 kids. I'm in a General Studies program at a local community technical college, doing pre-req's. After this semester, I only have A&P 1&2, and Microbiology left to take. I tried to get into A&P this semester, but all were full so I took Human Biology instead, which I'm really enjoying.

I have applied to many of the 2-year ADN programs around here - they are all sort of interconnected through the state Technical College system, but all of them have different requirements for admission. Some you need all your pre-req's done, and get FANTASTIC scores on the NLN, and have Biology and Chemistry within the past 5 years, some you need to just have taken the NLN.

Anyway, I currently have a 3.85 GPA, and have been asked to join the Phi Theta Kappa honor society at my school. I am not even applying this year at the school I'm in now, since I have one class on their list I haven't taken, so they won't even consider my app.

I just had my first interview today, and it went well. BUT.....there are only 16 spots in this program, and many, many applicants. (I think this must sound familiar to everyone!) I have another Open House to go to at another school on Saturday, and an interview after that sometime. I'm encouraged about that school, which has both AD and BS degrees in Nursing. I've been in close contact with the A.D. of Admissions, and so far (*knock on wood*) it seems promising!!

I've been wanted to become an RN for a L O N G time, and now that my youngest is in school full-time, I feel it can finally be a possibility, if I get in.

If I don't succeed in getting in this year, I may try to enter an LPN program.

Does anyone have any opinions on Columbus State's Nursing program?
