How about a thread that will allow us to introduce ourselves to those who are new and the new students can do the same.

Hello.
My name is Mave. I'm Puerto Rican and I have three sisters (I'm the oldest). I'm 22 y/o and I love God. I'm starting my first nursing school semester in three days. Sorta freaking out. I joined in October of '05 and I don't regret it one little bit. I LOVE THIS SITE!!!! I'm addicted.:chuckle

Hi! I'm Christa, I'm 25 and start my first semester (of 4) in my Accelerated program next Tuesday. I'm excited to the point of nerd-dom! For example, I got my student nursing uniform (henceforth known as my Shrubs, b/c I look like an ornamental lawn decoration in them) yesterday and had to immediately try them on and parade around the house. As further indication of excitement, I read the first 2 chapters in one of my textbooks. Figured I might as well, since all of them cost so much (geez, talk about a bite out of the budget). I've spent so long getting to the point of starting school, I believe I might as well be bouncing off the walls. I want to be the best nurse possible and am happy to find this community as a way to see what might be in store for me. :wink2:
@Christa- Isn't it awesome, I was the same way. Our uniforms are all white. I'm male and I look like the ice cream man or the milk man.
I'm getting ready to start 2nd Semester. My wife graduated from the RN program in the spring of '04. She is currently working at the local hospital in ICU. While she was going to school, she would talk about her experiences. I became fascinated about nursing. I loved the fact that we get to be apart of the healing process. Part of my life has been about destruction and I love the fact that I can contribute something positive to society.
We have two kids (girls). One is six and the other is two. My wife started second semester on a Monday and found out she was pregnant with our two year old on Saturday. But, she pushed on through and made it. It was tough but we did it.
I'm 42 and I used to be a electronic technician. I worked on fruit sorting systems (camera based) in packing houses in California. It was decent money but packing houses in the middle of summer are brutal. They are also very cold in the middle of winter. I'm glad to switch careers. I love logic and troubleshooting. I will get to use these with nursing also.
First semester was the hardest school that I have ever done. I got a B. That B means more to me than any A I ever got in prereqs. The questions change from knowledge based to critical thinking. Now, there are 4 correct answers, which answer is the most right. I recommend getting a study group. I use this group for emotional support also. It is a good place to vent. Also, do not procrastinate, read and be prepared for lecture. It is a lot of work but I just took one thing at a time. I did what was in front of me. If I thought about the whole picture, I would sometimes get a little crazy.
Clinical was awesome. To actually contribute to helping someone else is killer. For me, I tend to be somewhat selfish. The best medicine for me is helping others.
It is hard but it is one of the most rewarding things that I have done in my life.
To my fellow students, I pray for the best for all of you.
God Bless
Genhen
Hello to all. My name is Brandie, and I'm 32. I have been happily married to my highschool sweetheart for 11 years, and we have three wonderful children. I just started my second semester (of three) LPN school. I loved your post genhen...sounds JUST LIKE ME!! I love the fact that you can be a part of someone's healing process...not only physically, but emotionally. I plan to enter an accelerated RN class next January, but if I think of that...I will lose my mind. I take every class, every clinical one at a time. I just finished my first week of med rotation...loved it!! I have a little background in pharmacy as a tech, so that has helped me tremendously. I drive over an hour to get to school everyday...on the days we have clinicals...I leave my house at 4:45 in the morning...that takes dedication. I am dedicated to being the best nurse I can. Best of luck to all!
Hi! I'm sure I have posted before on this thread but here we go again....
I am Stephanie, 27year old from MD. I'm married with 2 kids and getting ready to begin my second semester of my first year. We don't have classes over the summer so I am wondering what the heck I will do with 2 months off when the winter break is killing me!:uhoh21:
