How about a thread that will allow us to introduce ourselves to those who are new and the new students can do the same.

I am Stephany, 42, mother of 3 children, a son 22, a daughter 15, and a son 13. I am an LPN of nearly 11 years, and I am in my first semester of a five-semester rn program.

Care to share?

Hello: I am 54 and am just getting ready to begin clinical in the first year

of PN. It has been challenging but well worth it. I passed the pharmacology

and am thrilled.

It's great to find someone else around 50 just getting into nursing. Where are you going to school? I'm starting the 2-year BSN at Johns Hopkins in Sept. after 2 years of prerequisites. This is a career change from graphic design. What have you been doing prior to this?

You are ADMIRABLE! Congratulations, dml. I can imagine how hard it must be. I just finished my first clinicals and am 45. More power to you!

Pharmacology is tough but it was a great course. Does your pharm course offer you the opportunity to take the NAPNES exam once you pass your state boards? Just curious.

I don't think so. I believe you still have to take required courses before

you can bridge.

Hello Everyone,

My name is Carla and I am a 25 year old college student with three beautiful children with a loving fiance'. I am currently taking my pre reqs in order to get accepted in to the nursing program. I am hoping to get accepted in to the program by the next enrollment date. My ultimate goal is to work toward my MSN and hopefully teach a nursing class or branch off into either Forensic Nursing or become a CRNA :p .

Hi all I am 31 mother of two. 9 year old baseball player and 5 year old princess tom boy. I love the kids with all my heart my son, at 6 asked me how come I never went to college. I told him I don't know I just never wanted to go. I was working full time at a nursing home and pretty much loved my job. I never put much thought into doing any thing else. The more I thought of him asking how come I didn't go, the more I wanted to go. To something more.

My 5 year old, not in school yet doesn't like the idea because I am not at home with her everyday but can't wait till I can work on her boo-boos that is what she said yesterday.

I have always wanted to be a nurse, sometimes I question if I can endure. I know I can.

I want to make a difference in nursing. I want the "they's" to know I was there. "They are the ones that make the rules" "They are the ones that jack up the price of tylenol" "They are the ones that limit the amount of briefs that can be used in a given shift" "They are the ones that tell the resident that he/she can't get the meds they need on current priscription plan causing outragous out of pocket expense.

Any way I like this site and I look forward to coming back more often.

Sue

hi,

i think the only way you can set up an avatar is to become a premium member. i just joined yesterday and was able to set it up.

Hi,

My name is Erin and im from ohio...im in an ADN program at Cstate....

Hi--

My name is Hillary, I am 26, and I've just been accepted to the RN program at JCCC in KS. I'm a single mother of 2 deceptively adorable girls, ages 9 and 4.

I want to become a nurse so that I may continue on and earn my CNM. WHile working as a web administrator, I was a child birth coach for 2 of my friends, during which I decided that I would like to be a midwife. I had a midwife during my 2nd pregnancy, and that cinched the deal for me. I had decided to return to college once my youngest started school. Unfortunately (or maybe not!), I was laid off 2 years ago. Rather than jump into another dead-end career, I returned to school the next fall to work off my pre/co-reqs for the nursing program. I applied for Fall 2005, and received my acceptance letter last Saturday.

Now I have a whole new set of worries--how will I pay my bills during the program? Will I even see my kids in the next 2 years? But I know this is right for me.

With God, all things are possible; He has brought me this far, I know He will see me to the end! :)

Congrats to you Hillary! It's a step and I'm proud you took it! You can always get student loans, grants, etc to help out with your tuition. Contact your financial aid counselor at school to learn more. I had a colleague in my class who has 4 kids and is going to school with most of her tuition and books paid for. I'm not sure how she did it, but it's definitely possible! Blessings to you! As you said, you are on the right path!
