How about a thread that will allow us to introduce ourselves to those who are new and the new students can do the same.

I am Stephany, 42, mother of 3 children, a son 22, a daughter 15, and a son 13. I am an LPN of nearly 11 years, and I am in my first semester of a five-semester rn program.

Hi Everyone!

My name is Lisa and I am 40 yrs old, married twice with a son that is 24 years old. Oh, my husband has just started the coursework for the nursing program but I dunno if he is gonna make it, I really hope he does since I can help him with all his coursework.

I am starting my RN program in August at a nursing school, and this summer I finish ALL my coursework for my AAS degree,that has taken me 3 years 3/4 time at our community college.

It will be nice to just be able to concentrate on nursing school since I have the other out of the way, just took a year of waiting to get into nursing school vs. the fall to continue at the community colleges nursing program that I would have had to wait until the fall of 2006.

I just finished my second semester of my BSN. I so want it to all be over so I can just be a nurse already! My ultimate dream job at this point would be to be a Labor and Delivery nurse. How about you guys? Too bad it's not like the old days when all the babies were kept in a nursery room-that would be fun-to have a whole room of new babies to take care of. I guess it will be just as cool to watch the moms too, but my friend said that sometimes the moms are mean. Then again, that will happen in any unit.

I'm also thinking it would be awesome to work in a hospice. It's weird but ever since I've wanted to be a nurse, I've always gone back and forth with wanting to work with those in the beginning of the lifespan, or the end. :p

Hi! I'm Monique, 24, married. I have two kids, a 3 year old girl and 1 year old boy. I'm in New Orleans, La. and currently waiting for an acceptance or rejection :crying2: letter from LSUHSC's BSN Program. Anyone else in the area applying to or already attending nursing school?

I have applied to two schools in Ohio and was accepted to both, I have chosen to go to a nursing school instead of the Community Colleges nursing program and University of Tampa is wanting me there for their BSN Nursing program, would love to go because that is where I want to move to when I complete nursing, but it is BIG $$$ so I am just going to go with AAS degree and when I get into a hospital then I will pursue my BSN and let them pay for it, sounds kinda cruel but they offer tuition assistance might as well take advantage of the benefits.

I'm Dee. I am embarking on my senior year of nursing school. I am a non-tradtional student attempting to complete my BSN after a 10 year educational hiatus. Being in nursing school has taught me alot about myself and the nature of human beings. I love people, even though I don't always understand their motives. Nursing is the best decision that I have made in my life so far. It allows me to use every aspect of my compassion. I have laughed, I have cried...I love it and it is my passion.

I have two kids, and a wonderful fiance. Being a non-tradtional student has had its challenges, but I am determined to complete my program with pride. Maternity nursing is what brought me to nursing school, but ICU/Emergency nursing is my current area of interest. I imagine at some point I will be a nursing instructor because I have a desire to share all that I have learned.

i love your attitude...i walked the stage yesterday at the Univ. of TN with a degree's both in History and Philosophy. I took this weekend off from the ER. It hit me yesterday afternoon, what would life be like without being in the ER's on the weekender program. Out of 26 years in the ER, probably at least 23 have been on Fri's, Sat's and Sundays. I have also been a non-traditional student (heck at 52 now) im older than most of the professors.

the next step is law school and that gives me only 2.5 months break. I just got remarried in November to a wonderful gift from God, she accepted me with my 12 y/o child. For two years it was just my son and I. We lived in university housing and i managed to work weekenders and attend classes full-time. The three years i have worked for this double degree have also taught me a lot about myself. Most of you know, being a single parent is hard. I cried after graduation because i made it...some times it wasnt day by day....it was minute by minute....I didnt make it because I am smart..i made it because of my son, my then fiance (now wife) and the freinds in my life who kept telling me, just put put foot in front of the other.

Now i am looking at (3) more years of law school and i just wonder why? I have worked so hard to get the GPA that got me in law school and the LSAT scores were great.....Does my family deserve another (3) years of husband and dad in school...well obviously, i have gone too far to omit the next episode in my life...but even with a degree in law and my age.....i can't imagine a week-end, where i will not be in some ER, eeeking out some of the last adrenaline i still have in me...I couldnt wait till graduation from law school and i would never have to put up with the "crap in the ER again"...Just maybe it wasnt the crap I thought it was..Maybe it who i am..waiting for the next ambulance or areo-vac...enjoy the day dave

I'm Jenn - just finished my first semester of pre-reqs. I'm hoping to enter an RN program in the fall of 2006. I'm slowly working my way through school.

Nothing like a semi-mid-life career change, but this is something I have wanted to pursue to almost 6 years so it is worth the wait!

Hello, my name is Kim, 38, divorced, mother of a 15 year old daughter. Finishing up my required courses. I want to apply in September so I'm working really hard this summer. I'm taking algebra, microbiology, dimensional analysis, Intro. to health professions, and medical terminology. Plus, I'm studying for the TEAS test. If anyone has any advice,tips, or something that might help me do weel on my test I'd appreciate it. I'm studying from the ATI study guide.

Tell me your experiences in all of the above so I know what to expect. Sharing is such a wonderful thing. What is that saying?...Stronger in droves?lol

hi, i'm seren and i just graduated from a bsn program - i'm waiting to take the nclex june 8th. it took me 6 years and 1 baby to get here and boy am i happy. can't wait to start working and bringing home some bacon (fig. - i'm a vegetarian). my son turned 2 this feb (27th) and i love him like crazy, and am continually amazed by him and also am terribly frustrated and weary at the same time (welcome to motherhood right?). i'm 24 and so is my dh - we've been together since jan of '02 and we have our ups and downs but manage to keep it together somehow. can't say that nursing school has helped our relationship too much - but i know i couldn't have done it without him and i love him for that. he's been really patient with my career aspirations while quietly waiting to go back to school and working his butt off cooking at a 4-star restaurant.

as far as nursing i really like working in the er (did my preceptorship there) but don't know if i would like to do it forever. i hate paperwork and love being able to connect with my patients. i don't like psych and i love kids but really don't care for peds (too depressing - don't think i could handle it). i am really psyched about getting a family np degree and possibly having my own clinic one day. i'm currently job-hunting. and that's all about me.

Good Luck!! I am beginning Nursing II (out of IV) on Tuesday. I am wondering what the average time spent in a Bachelor's program is and also for ADN. Our school has the two year Associate degree, but you can not complete it in less than 3 years. You have one year of core and two years (including summers) of nursing. I completed my ASN first before beginning the nursing classes for the Associate degree so that when I graduate in May 2006, I will only lack two semesters to complete my BSN. That will mean that I will have spent 5 years completing my BSN. Is that about normal, a little longer, or a little shorter than normal?
