How about a thread that will allow us to introduce ourselves to those who are new and the new students can do the same.

I am Stephany, 42, mother of 3 children, a son 22, a daughter 15, and a son 13. I am an LPN of nearly 11 years, and I am in my first semester of a five-semester rn program.

Care to share?

Hi my name is Brenda and I am married with no children but, I work nights at a hospital. I have been a Medical assistant since 6/93. I will be applying for the nursing program after this semester. Does anybody know of any schools in Georgia or North Carolina that don't have a wait to get in once you apply?

Maybe North Georgia Tech In Blairsville. I'm at Tri County Community College in NC and I had to go through a yr long process to get in. I've also heard people talk about a college in Jasper that is easier to get into, but don't no anything about it at all. Sorry

Hi, I am a 46 y/o (almost 47) mother of 2 girls ages 22 and 13. I have been and LPN for 10 years. My 22 year old is married. I have no grandchilden yet. :)

I am an "older" student working towards my BSN-RN. I just finished my pre-reqs last semester and will start my first nursing classes in the fall! I have a hubby, 2 daughters (grown), and a wonderful dog who does pet therapy with me.

Glad to meet all of you and I look forward to interesting discussions in the future!

Hi..I'm 29 yo, married with a 20 month old daughter. I started taking pre-reqs last Winter term and hoping to apply for the nursing program in my community college in 2006.

Hell All,

I am Kelly, a 27 year old Ohio ADN student. I start my clinicals in August of 2005, should graduate in May of 2007. I just got married last summer & bought a house 2 years ago.I think I am more nervous about affording my mortgage while in nursing school than I am about the classes themselves. My husband is going to become a full-time student in January as well. (Not exactly sure what he is pursuing at the moment) I hope to pursue my dream to become a forensic nurse.(if I can find out more on how to do it locally!!)

Kelly, You are headed in the right direction. Forensic nursing is so interesting.I don't know how I made it financially but I did it. Loans, begging and working part time and spending very very little on anything but gas and living expenses. It worked, I just graduated and I am hoping to get a call on a job this week! When you want something just head in that direction and if you have a strong will you can do it. YOu have to put a lot on hold, frineds and family, going out. It would be a lot better if one of you was working but you must be planning on borrowing for that mortgage. Like I said it was tough but I did it and I am a lot older than you are, so I am sure you will. Nursing school is more a time commmitment than anything. If you are average intelligence there isn't anything not to get. It is all time management and if you have tho work there is a problem fitting it all in. My father helped me out when he could, always slipping me a little money here and there and bought me a new car in Feb. for my birthday. Evn my friends telling me they were proud of me helped, I could not fail...too many people thought I could do it....so I had to. Good Luck....Nancy

Hi my name is Laurie and I will starting the RN program at a community college this fall. I am 39 years old, married with 2 sons aged 5 and 19. I was a nail technician and esthetician for many years, and finally decided I wanted to stimulate my brain and go back to school when I was 34. I have all of my prereqs done and 55 credits total, except for microbiology. I tried to get it over with this summer, but the class filled up immediately! So now I will take it in the fall. In my mind, NOTHING could be as mind boggling and challenging as chemistry. (I hope!!! Anyone who's taken micro--any advice would be appreciated!)

Anyways, I am hoping to gain wisdom and new friends on this site and look forward to reading all the posts. I posted a while back once, but then got too busy to get on the computer. One thing I have learned already visiting this site is how to "feel" veins from the I.v. thread. I close my eyes and feel everyone in my family's veins in their arms--they think I'm nuts, but I already have a feel for the strong ones!

Hi, I am down in Florida at our community college there are 300-400 students applying for 120 spots. I am applying for the second time to get in both times I was within 15-20 people. It is so nerve racking. I am waiting for my letter now. Apps were due in June 1, 2005 and usually we find out 4-6 weeks later. I just wanted you to know I did not like chemistry at all. I loved microbiology. There is a great difference in the two classes. Where in chemistry all we did was math, in micro we grew bacteria, did experiments and my instructor was a microbiologist as well as an instructor. I really enjoyed that class. Good luck, Shelia

Good for you going back to school. You can do it even if you have some weak areas...like the sciences. I hate them but I did it. I went to school the first time when I was your age...to be a nutritionist, I thought I would die when I had to take 3 chesistries....ugh! Then almost 20 yrs. later...I know I am old! I decided that if I did not go to school to be a RN now it would be too late....so once again I did it. Just graduated and now thinking about the boards...see you can do anything you put your mind to. I somehow got ADHD this year...I still don't believe it... but I still did it. I failed Micro the first time. I took it outside my school, the instructor was foreign, I did not understand a word, the next time I got a B+, I was going through a lot, just moved, left my husband, living with my parents...it was not a time for learning. I would not let a course, an instructor, a husband!, or anything stop me from achieving my goals. I plan on working until I practically die. I love to work, I am happy when I work...that is why it still mattered to me to be a nurse. So don't worry about a thing, once you are in the middle of it all you will get it, you have the desire and the right attitude to be a great nurse. Nancy
