hello,
i am new to nursing and i am in need of some help and advice- so if anyone out there can help i'd appreciate it.
i have one years experience in an ortho trauma unit in england- having completed a rn diploma- the hospital is losing nursing jobs and my original plan was to move to the US at some point- is anyone out there with experience of moving to the US, is the Nclex as hard as it looks? Is it a big step? basically- would you recommend moving?

I have moved your thread to the International Forum. This same Moderator, Suzanne4, may be able to help you with the NCLEX info you are inquiring about.
Good luck to you. I am so glad you have found us.

Hi,
Welcome to all nurses :welcome: :groupwelcome: I am sure you will find everything in this forum re emigrating to the US. If you read some of the threads you will find lots of explainations of the process. The biggest problem you will have is that the US wont recognise your nursing diploma as you will have not done enough hours in paeds, maternity and mental health. But read the threads get some ideas and come back and ask more questions, we are here to help.
ok- many thks- i'll check it out (when not working or studying) i used to have a life- i'm sure i did! cheers
sorry, it's me again- i'm getting more confused- my mate says you just succeed in the nclex exam (sounds hard enough in itself)- or, do i as it seems have to somehow make up hours in paediatrics, mental health etc, because if that's the case- i have no chance- as i work myelf into the ground already and have no spare time to do extra shifts on other units- plus i would have to work for free as my trust is way over budget and they do not allow overtime and are even making redundancies- jobs are starting to look a bit iffy here-working in the US seems to be the holy grail for many of my colleagues at the moment.

to make hours up it has to be both practical and theory and with a recognised school of nursing. Unfortunately not by doing extra shifts in required areas. Again unfortunately there isn't I believe anywhere in the UK able to do this unless still doing your training and manage to make arrangements with the university.
The NCLEX is a exam that you have to pass and I found Saunders a good book.
thks for your help- looks like i'm done for- gonna spend the rest of my life working in a bankrupt trust for a poor salary and ever increasing workload- the US seemed like a good idea- it seems more like an impossible dream- no way of making up theory hours then- i'm DOOMED!
sorry- i'm usually a happy soul
take care- thks K.

Dont be disheartened, there is always something that can be done. Have you thought about Austrailia it is an easier country to emigrate to.
