Interviewing for CNA Position Tomorrow

Published

Specializes in Pediatric/Adolescent, Med-Surg.

Hi everyone. I haven't been on in a while as I've been getting settled in Pittsburgh and looking for a job, perferably in healthcare. Well today I recieved a call back for an interview tomorrow from a local LTC facility. They will train me on the job (and I'll get paid! :pumpiron: ). At the end of the month of training, I'll have a job working at the LTC facility. Anyone have any words of advice? :specs:

Specializes in ICU, ER, Hemodialysis.

Congratulations on the new job/training. CNA work is both rewarding and sometimes grueling work. A residents smile can light up your whole day, but having too many people to care for so that you can't give the SPECIAL care that you want to give can make you want to quit. Just never lose site of your goals. CNA is a perfect foundation to build a solid Nursing career onto.

Come to allnurses.com for those days that you need a little support and get out and have fun to relieve the built up stress. NEVER neglect yourself, for you must be 100% in order to give 100%. Understand that death really is a part of life and not just an expression. IMHO, we go to a better place, where suffering stops and true peace starts. Let every day be a learning experience, forgive yourself of mistakes, and try to never make the same one twice.

Good luck and congratulations.

Sincerely,

Jay

Since u are going to upmc shadyside, why not just work at shadyside hospital. There are a lot of nursing assistant that are nursing students just like you who work there. It would be a great experience for u. I believe must of the people who go to upmc shady son, have their clinical there as well! Infact one girl from upmc shadyside son just started several days ago. In anycase if interested u can go to www.upmc.edu and apply on line. Apply to any of the local campuses. U can apply at presby, magee, childrens or montefiore, southside etc. Shadyside could be closer depending on where u live. where do u reside?

While cna is a good foundation, do u think u would have time for their trainning since its held daylight hours and usually run for three weeks?

Congratualations and enjoy the job!

Working with the elderly can be an extremely rewarding job if you let it be. Remeber that even the littlest things can make a resident's day. Always have a smile on your face and take the time to enjoy your work. Also know that sometimes you just need to vent.

I have looked into Shadyside and Presby, but they appear to be more interested in hiring aides with experience.

Yes, the training is held in the daylight hours (typically 9-3:30), but I have my Shadyside classes three nights a week from 5:30-8:30. As I will only be putting in these long hours at the facility during training, I don't think it will interfere with my long term schooling. I reside in Emsworth, and the LTC facility isn't very far away. Thank you for your advice :)

Great! I pray you all the best...

LTC will be challenging, a real boot camp experience. I think it is a wonderful place to start! You may discover you have a real love of geriatrics, and make it long term...

Specializes in long term care.

good luck to you. i too was just hired at a nursing home in the Pittsburgh, area. Sycamore Creek. The starting pay is great and I too hope to get into nursing school next year. I live in Youngstown, Ohio currently and I am looking to relocate there soon. maybe we can chat.

I was wondering how the interview went?

I was wondering how the interview went?

The interview went great. Two weeks later I was offered a position. However, I turned it down because (the very same day, actually) UPMC Shadyside offered me an interview for an aide position. The starting pay at Shadyside is over $2 more. Right now, it looks like there's a very good chance I'll be starting at Shadyside in a couple of weeks. :)
