Outline your strengths, willingness to work very autonomously. Bring proof of any certifications (First Aid, CPR/AED, BLS,ACLS, etc) Do some research on this thread, see what some of the commonalities are. Look up the difference between 504 and IDEA. Take a look at immunization requirements, see if there is anything peculiar in your state. Check your local school nurse association website, that is certain to have a list of hot topics.
Good Luck and keep us posted.
Add a touch of talking the "school" language. One example would be that you understand that a big part of what your job would be is to keep kids as healthy as possible and in the classroom, where they will learn. Also, knowing that the higher the ADA (Average Daily Attendance) equates to more funding for the school. It will also make a difference whether you are interviewing with a nurse supervisor, or administrators that won't know much "nurse lingo"
Assessment skills, independence, and ability to function in critical situations were big one at my interview. I also think they like to hear that you want to be there to keep everyone healthy and in class!
Becky,
did they ask you to give examples on how you demonstrated the above characteristics?

Hi, There!
I was invited for a much coveted School RN interview. I have ADN, Bachelors in another field rather than nursing, and 2.5 yrs experience in Labor and Delivery in hospital setting. Plus I have been subbing as a School RN in a district different from the one that I was invited for an interview for 2 years too.
I really need this job, I still work at my L&D unit, but I desperately need to switch.
What can I expect at the interview? Aside from the typical, tell us about yourself, and what's your weakest point, how else can I prepare myself?
I am not sure a far as the format of the interview, I just know it will be around 30 min and there will be a couple of interviewers
Thank you- thank you! I appreciate all feedback!
