How do you guys access the internet while you're traveling? We have a laptop but currently (not traveling) use a phone line based high-speed modem. We are anticipating needing internet access from day one, as soon as we move into the housing. Is this possible? Do you prefer cable modem vs. phone line access? Can you use a cell phone to access the internet? How long does it take for you to get hooked up? Is there another way I don't know about?

If you are using a dial up connection then make sure you download the local access numbers where you will be before you go. That way as soon as you get to your destination you can dial in.

I have Verizon Broadband. Its about $60.00/mos but can use almost everywhere....note I said almost everywhere :)
Otherwise I stay at hotels that have internet access and a lot of places have libraries with internet access or even internet cafes.
Good Luck

Usually I do cable. I used to keep an MSN account up for home but I gave that up.. Two internet services was a waste of money.
I usually get right on the local cable company as I am addicted to the net...

Cable hook-up. I used to have dial-up, and oh my word! It's so much slower! It's not that expensive per month and no equipment to worry about.

Cable modem only. It usually takes just a couple of days.If you use the cable modem, you do not need to worry about the phone, that is still dial-up if you go thru your cell phone.
You will find significant speed improvement with the cable vs. the phone DSL.
