New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

congratulations!!!! I'm so inspired! I hope I can get lucky as you! I might as well say to you now, Bon Voyage!

Thanks, bro... will be doing it before the week ends

Thanks to you, too, bro! As they say, if you can't get your way 'round the front door, there's the back door, and there's the window... Hehehe! :D If all goes well, we'll all eventually be able to pass through every obstacle that this whole process has been stressfully causing every Australian-bound overseas applicant. Keyword is perseverance! You should be getting your NBV assessment letter within the week or the week thereafter. It should be anywhere near my time line since we both sent our applications in nearly coinciding dates so be on the lookout for it, bro. And unlike mine, I hope it'll be smooth sailing for you when you receive that coveted letter, otherwise, you already did the right contingency measure, bro

Hi guys.. I also applied for NBV and haven't received the recommendation letter yet, it has been almost 5 months since my initial application sent. Well i received 2 notification letter 2 months a go and last month related to the missing data, and it has been almost 3 weeks since i have completed what they need so far. They told me that i only have to wait now since they are assessing my docs now...... It has been a stressfully 5 month for me as well... The idea of applying for the other board such as NMBWA came across in my mind, do u all think i need to apply for NMBWA before July? help me please... I am so frustrating waiting this long for NBV to give me the recommendation letter.

Thank u so much

God Bless Nurses, God Bless us all

Good day friends, Im from the Philippines and I am planning to submit my application in NBV as well. I humbly asking anyone here to pls. fill in my knowledge deficits. =p

Does anyone of you knows if NBV considers Volunteering job and hospital training(3 months in MICU) as work experience? or will i be in need of a statutory declaration? i want everything to go smoothly with regards to my application that's why if possible i wanted my statutory dec. done as early as now if it would be best for me to do so. I need your insights and advices, mates. thank you.

Hello Nurses,

I have just received my registration from the NBV today which is a very good news..:) the certificate is still hot to touch :D lol..

However, this is a bad news, currently only 4 among the 28 of us in our batch got a job...i have never thought it will be like this contrary to what ive known before...it is a bit hard now to find a job...yes there are job vacancies here and there but most of the employers need a specific experience wether it would be a local or an overseas experience, alternatively you will have the option to do a grad year program but then it depends upon the outcome of the interview...and most of the programs will start january or february each year.

i feel so sad with my batchmates who have spent thousands of dollars just to gain a registration, some of them will have their visas expiring soon, the soonest is next month and all of their (some) applications were unsuccessful...i always say "i thought australia is in need of nurses, so here we are now, how come they are so picky?"....:(

but like what they always say, patience is a virtue...im not being conceited, but im lucky that i am a Permanent resident...well, for me right now im just happy that i made it, i have the registration now and im ready for my upcoming holiday this july :D :D :D

PS: its getting cold out here, its freaking freezing...i bet a coffee shop business would really click..hehe..

Thanks Ryan for the update and the news. Congrats mate!

My family will be relocated again to the rural soon (confirmed) and I'm so excited bec there are plenty of jobs there although the place freaking sucks. I've been a "tambay" for 5 mos now. Where the hell are the jobs in Perth? I thought plenty of jobs in the city? Wrong mentality after all. But anyway, I'm no longer rushing for my June conversion coz I will instead go for the 3 mos bp of etea or deakin. Plenty of jobs in nrsg at the rural. And to keep me busy while waiting for my nbv I'll be working again in a different field. Well, to save some moolahs for my expenses there.

See you everyone in Melbourne.

pls help.. i've already sent the stat dec NBV reuired and my next step would be to apply for the visa.. i would just like to ask about the financial req. is 17k aud enough? because my aunt will sponsor me. i'm planning to go to deakin with a tuition fee of 9900 something. does the embassy requires the funds to be available at least 3 or 6 months before the date of application? and last question, do they need an additional evidence of source of funds other than the bank statement and pay slips..

pls help me.. i'm planning to go to etea by sept or if not probably by jan.. i already emailed deakin and they said that the deadline for the jan bp is on sept 07

pls help me with this prob.. my aunt already has 17 k in her account but it was only placed there last month? do they need a 3 or 6 months allowance before applying for a visa which is the case when you applied for a student visa here in the philippines. I've tried it before and even contacted idp.. i had prob with my financial req only because of the dates and when i heard the bp program, which is cheaper, i changed my plans.

hoping and praying for your assistance

what visa subclass are you planning to apply for?

No need for allowance. If you will be lodging your visa tomorrow make sure there is money in the account today to the amount you declared and that money should never be touched. If your funds go lower at anytime during the lodgement then your visa application will be rejected.

Thanks Ryan for the update and the news. Congrats mate!

thank you..

i agree, there are opportunities in the rural areas..

good luck to you...

When I called ETEA,the lady said I have to send my docs via courier. I'll give them a call again. All docs have to be certified... the same way as NBV??? or do i just scan the same docs I sent to NBV. I have an extra "set". How about for the fee? Did u use bank draft? do they accept credit card? If they don't then I will really end up sending the docs by courier. How did u do urs? ..... thanks for the info! :)

ive known someone who used credit card in paying the fee and she sent her docs through email..:)

Can someone pls tell what hospitals etea is affiliated with? Are these hospitals far from etea like an hour commute?

Congrats in finding a job in bendigo. I would like to work there too since it's a semi rural city. It sure is a great place to work and live.

it depends upon the availability of the placement facilities. if there are enough vacancies in the metro or urban area then youll be lucky to have those facilities, but if the competition is stiff considering that there are undergrad nursing students as well then most probably you will be assigned in the regional areas...ive known some people who did their course at etea, and were assigned in Sale, Seymour, warnambool, and as far as sydney...simply because they cant vacancies...

what's a good visa for the 3 months BP? i would like to have enough time to look for work after i graduate. please suggest.
