Florida or California?

Hello there!

I wish to be licensed in the State of Florida but I'm having second thoughts because of certain factors. One of the requirement for foreign educated nurses is to go through the CES to completely analyze and evaluate their credentials. It generally takes 6-8 weeks to prepare and furnish a completed report and the processing fee is $278 apart from the Florida BON application itself($190).

California BON on the other hand requires no CES and the processing fee is only $107. I thought of pursuing my license in California and eventually transfer to Florida through endorsement. Would that be possible?

Please share your thoughts. Need to know if that would be a better decision. Thanks and more power.:)

Even if you did not work there, FL requires the CES for licensure of a foreign nurse. If you are going to work in CA, then you will be doing it for a minimum of two years, the length of most contracts.

Thanks for that information Ms. Suzanne.:nuke:

Hi!

That was indeed a long process. Did you request for the healthcare profession and science report? Did they also require you to have your secondary education evaluated? Was it performed by CGFNS? (Coz there are several agencies who do CES).

Hope you won't mind me asking several questions praeclarus.:)

That's ok.

Sorry for the delayed reply. It basically depends on what the Florida BON requires. The report you mentioned was actually the one that the Illinois BON required for licensure, but I took the Full Education Course-by-Course Report. This one is more detailed. Both reports do require a secondary education evaluation, and mine was performed by CGFNS.

Hope that answered your questions.

That was a big help praeclarus! Thanks for your time.:thankya:

Always recommend that you go thru CGFNS for the credential eval. Reason being that if you decide to move from Florida, or not go there, many states require the CES, and will only accept that. You would have to go thru the process sooner or later. Why spend extra money when you do not need to?

CES stands for what?

CES stands for what?

Hello! I'm from the Phils and passed my NCLEX which i applied in California. I got a notice after 4 weeks that i passed the exam however, a SSN was asked from me for the BON to give my permanent license. Am i correct in asking that if my employer wants me to work in other states other than Califrnia, that would'nt be possible? Do i have to work first in California and finish my contract there before going in other states and apply for license by endorsement? Sigh, if thats the case, i should have applied in New Mexico or Vermont since i heard the license is the one baing mailed to NCLEX passers.

Please help...ur comments will be greatly appreciated!!

You never have to set foot in CA. You cannot endorse a license from there, as you do not have one and will not get a license until you have gone thru the immigration process and are ready to work in the US.

The licenses for any state that issues them also requires a SSN# to renew them. They will expire after their time that they were issued for and if no SSN# is available, they will expire. So really does not make a difference in the scheme of things.

You still need to go thru the process with any state for licensure there, NCLEX is only one part of the process.

FL normally requires the CES. And if you endorsed a CA license, it means that you were in the US and had a SSN#.

You cannot endorse if you do not have a SSN#, you need to go thru the License by Examination process and then have CA forward the passing score on the NCLEX exam to FL.

hi, suzanne!...i just want to know how can I ask CA to forward my NCLEX passing score to CNMI. I already applied for a license for examination in CNMI and my documents were already reviewed. I visited Cali-BON website, but cant find any info about it. I sent them an email asking what are the procedures and fees that I have to pay for them to do such, but no reply. I would appreciate it very much if you could give me some info. Thanx!

CNMI is not a state. So you did not apply to them for licensure. You can request that they send verification of your passing score to the agency that is handling the evaluation for the state. That is what CNMI is.

You can use the same form, or somethign similar that you use to have CA verify the exam score for the Visa Screen Certificate. They charge $60 US for that, so imagine that it will be similar to that. You will need to contact them and ask them.

Had my initial licensure in California board then endorsed to florida board last december. Got my florida license in 6 weeks. No CES required from me. I just ask Ca board to forward my license verification to florida board.Paid $212 for my endorsement.Hope this help. Good luck on your application.

Hi, I am foreign grad from the Philippines. I endorsed my Ca RN license to Florida in 2006 no CES was requested that time. But recently I heared that Florida board now requires you to have actually practiced in your original state of licensure before they will endorse your license. Pls. check the website to confirm this.:)
