Have already answered your pm but going direct hire will still be a slow process and you will be looking at a few years before moving to the US and that is if you are lucky to get a visa. No longer a guarantee. I would suggest trying hospitals in the areas you want to live to see if they are petitioning foreign nurses, would also benefit yourself to have a job and gain experience whilst waiting. You may also need to consider another country but be aware very hard now to get into EU

Can I ask a couple of questions which might seem a bit silly but....

what is retrogression and Florida BON ?

Thanks for your advice which you gave me (which is a year ago looking back at the posts!!! Where does the time go!!)

I am keen on the Port Charlotte/Sarasota area of Fla which is nearby to the home we are building and will be hoping to find a long term post.

Do you think I should contact them direct or find an Nursing agency that deals with these hospital? Am I being unrealistic (or crazy :clown:) to have a goal of aiming for end of 2008....:uhoh3:

Thank you sorry about all the questions but you are all so helpful and seem so knowledgeable!! :icon_hug:

Many threads in the International forum on retrogression but basically no visas to expediate nurses we now join everyone else in the EB3 category and currently they are processing 2002. Florida BON is Florida board of nursing

I would say contact the hospitals direct to where you are looking at living and see if they are willing to petition foreign nurses but with retrogression many are not taking on foreign nurses at the moment so may have to widen your search. Very hard at the moment to predict when you will be able to move as no one knows how long retrogression is going to last but I have been approved since Aug 06 and still waiting. Also approach hospitals once you have completed requirements for Florida BON for foreign nurse and passed NCLEX.

I would say check out the International forum for more information on moving to the US but ask away on any questions you have we all aim to help

When you look at priority date with the visa bulletin EB3 will tell you where they are at processing, also goes on place of birth. Here is the link to visa bulletin Visa Bulletin just click current to know what is happening now and is updated approx 15th of every month and is what is predicted to happen for the following month only

Moved to the International forum as this is an old thread and things changed since last written and now request postings in the International forum if not locally related to the sub forum it is in.

Due to retrogression you may find it hard to find a hospital willing to assist with direct hire unless you have a lot of experience in an area of demand. The best thing you can do is contact hospitals in the areas you want to live and work and see what they have to say. With current wait over 5 years you have a long wait ahead of you. This may change but seeing as retrogression has been on going since Oct 06 there are many many people ahead of you in the queue waiting for a visa

So far I haven't seen any hospitals in California looking to petition anybody. As a matter of fact I was doing a job search a few weeks back and there was one posting that stated under qualifications something like "you must be in the US to apply or something like that. I believe it was an agency ad. I would suspect other companies to follow, there are many new grad RN's and seasoned RN's who can't find a job in California. So it doesn't make any sense to import. You might want to consider another country at this time and keep an eye on your PD while you're waiting. Good Luck
