For those of you that are studying in the US under either an F-1 visa, or any other where you do not have permission to work, and will need to apply for a green card when you finish your schooling-----this is for you.
You must meet all of the requirements for immigration that a foreign-trained nurse does, the only exception that you have is that the English requirements are waived for you. You still need to submit the application and get a Visa Screen Certificate. This is offered by CGFNS and the application is available on their website, http://www.CGFNS.org. There is only one application available, whether you did your training in the US, or overseas.
You will still need to find an employer that will petition for your green card. You will still need to undergo a physical exam at a physician's office that is approved by USCIS an have verification of all titers and vaccinations. If you do not have verifiable proof of having had chicken pox, etc., you will need to have either a titer drawn, or receive the vaccination. Immigration is very strict now with this, they will no longer go on what you are verbally telling them.
Hope that this helps...............most of you will also be able to get an OPT for one year of training while your documents are being processed, but you can only receive the OPT once, especially if this is now a second career for you, and you already used your OPT status for the other.
If you are coming to the US just for the MSN, and already have a BSN from overseas, you will be required to write the English exams. You are only exempt from them if this is your initial training as a nurse, meaning ADN or BSN only.
Hello everyoneOnce again : ANYBODY KNOWS ANY AGENCY OR HOSPITAL OR CLINIC THAT WOULD PETITION FOR GC?
Thank you....
None, in case you don't know the US is in an economic crisis. Why would a hospital pay to for a green card when there are thousands of nurses who don't need a green card?
Plus the wait for this nurse is 5+ years, how can a hospital forecast their staffing needs five years ahead of time?
Sorry not the answer you want to hear.
Due to retrogression and the large amount of US nurses out of work the likelihood of finding a employer willing to go theGC route may be hard (not impossible just hard) all you can do yourself is contact hospitals and ask. Even then you will still be affected by retrogression and a long wait ahead of you, being in the US working doesn't make it quicker to go through the GC route
Anybody besides Ginger follows to this forum!
Many of us do.
However, our answers would be similar. There are very fewer employers that even qualify for H1b given the severity of the recession, and large number of unemployed local nurses. There is little reason to sponsor a GC knowing retrogression is in effect.
Retrogression affects the applicant who is filing from other the board.
Even though the economy is in ha:nurse:lt the demand for nurses is any time high of course with more experience and high education level.
From my understanding today if you are OT, ,PT or ST you chances to be petition for the GC is pretty good. Because the gates are open in certain profession and closed for many others.
Still I love what I do and I am just going to try and I am trying and see and hope for the better.
Thanks again guys.http://img.an-file.info/smilies/nurse.gif

I have been in the medical field for a long time, while it looks good today for OT, PT an Speech, the educational for those fields are masters level and pushing towards a doctorate. While employment outlook looks great for them today, they are subject to bouts of oversupply as nurses have. Who knows in 5 years plus when their PD becomes valid they may find the similar fate of nurses finding that their sponsors have abandoned them.
Yes nurses with more education and experience have more opportunities, they are often the first jobs to get cut and the competition for them is fierce for these positions.
