Informational interviews

I think that the purpose of your assignment is to actually interview (in person) 2 nurses. The give and take of an in-person interview can be very valuable. Do you know any nurses? Any of your friends' mothers/aunts/grandmas?

the point of your assignment was to get out and, you know, do interviews with 2 RNs.

I remember when I had this assignment and though "oh crap, now what" because I had 1000 pages to read, 3 papers to write and an exam coming up after doing clinicals but the point is to get out of your comfort zone and ask these questions.

We just recieved this assignment this week. I have no family member that are RN's nor do I live in a large city that I can go interview any Rn's. I live in a small remote community around 100 miles away from the city. My instructor is thru an online class and said we could interview online. I thought this would help give me a broad view of answers around the country.

Do you have a CVS minute clinic ( or equivalent) staffed by nurses, a health department, elementary school, physician office, planned parenthood, medical clinic, urgent care,hospital, assisted living, or nursing home in your area? If you call the hospital or LTC staff development office you will likely find someone to interview.

I'm certain that there is a county health department that you can call and interview a public health nurse.

I would highly recommend you find some nurses you can meet in person. You have no way of verifying that anyone here is actually a RN, and part of your assignment has to do with learning how to interview someone. This is a skill you need to build for when you're talking to patients. Make the most of your assignment, don't cut yourself short, and do this assignment in person.

We get a lot of "interview" requests, that ask the respondent to type out long responses. Maybe if someone would request to interview via video chat (Skype, yahoo, etc) they'd get a better response.

What kind of an online nursing program are you in? Do you not have in-person clinical rotations? You should be able to find a nurse there or at least be referred to an RN to interview.

So when your neighbors have to find a nurse...where would they find one? Does the VNA and/or hospice and/or midwifery service make any visits out your way now and then? Call and ask them. Parish nurses? They're out there, Charley ...
