Any one attending or apply to Columbia State?

I agree with everything that TN Student said. I was accepted for the Fall and my grade in A&P I was an A with a 23 on the ACT. As far as the advisor goes, I still do not have one either. I have looked on ChargerNet several times but they have not posted it. I do not really care because I never use an advisor. I never had the need for one. I always did and researched everything on my own. At Vol State where I did all of my pre and co-req's, I found that the advisors did not really know what they were talking about. I kept getting different and incorrect information. That might not be the case for Columbia State, but I still will not use one.

Good luck on your venture! I hope that you success and have a great future as a nurse!

They may also walk you through how to find this on MyChargerNet.

I've checked, but haven't been assigned one.

Just a word of advice (take it or leave it--I just wanna try to help you get accepted):twocents:.. I might would try to retake the ACT to see if you can improve your score. The semester I was accepted (Spring 08), the lowest ACT score was 23 with a B in API.

I've heard it is competitive. I plan on getting an A in A&P I, so far I have an A... I can get a better ACT score but really didn't want to study any more or pay $40 or whatever for the test. I took it in April the day after I had surgery and took a 10mg oxycodone an hour before so I was a little out of it. Not only that, but there isn't another national ACT until September and applications for Spring must be in at the end of August. I think there is a residual, but if I apply to another nursing program that test will not work because residual tests are only good for the school that gives it. I wish I would have did this 20 years ago out of High School.

Thanks for the advice!

Thanks! BTW, I went to Vol State back in '95. I took speech and sociology classes in '07 to finish my AS.

Just wanted to let you know that Columbia State (from my knowledge) is the only school around here that looks at the ACT for admission into nursing program. So I would probably go ahead and take the residual. You can always use your national at other colleges for admission purposes to the universities.

Thanks. I need to take the ACT to get in, otherwise I have a poor shot at being accepted with only 5 points(hopefully, if I get an A in A&P) and a not so great GPA.

I found out that Columbia bases their admissions on a point system only. Eight points being the max. Usually only those with 6-8 pts are admitted, but when they go down to 5 points they look at grade point average as the deciding factor.

Bachelor degree

1pt.

A&P I grade

3pts. --- A

2pts. --- B

1pt. --- C

ACT

1pt. --- 19

2pts. --- 20-21

3pts. --- 22-23

4pts. --- 24+

Hi - I'm starting the program this Fall, not sure how the points system works, but I think having a prior Bachelor's degree may play a big part. I have a BS degree (3.0-ish GPA), got a B in A&P I, but never took the ACTs (I took the SAT's in high school, but the nursing program never asked for a score) and was accepted right away.

Look forward to meeting my Franklin Campus classmates soon!

Does anyone know if the orientation in August is casual dress or dressy casual? I would hate to show up in blue jean capris and a tee shirt while everyone else is dressed in business casual attire. LOL! I am so excited about starting. I bought a Ipod Touch for clinicals as a PDA and plan on asking during orientation if they are allowed. I hope so because it would be alot lighter on my back to carry my PDA than a bunch of books into clinicals.

Anyway, can't wait to meet everyone at orientation!:D

TN Mommy,

I love your enthusiasm! :yeah:

As far as dress for Orientation--everyone was different at mine. Some wore jeans, some wore skirts and shorts.. I have a rule of thumb that I follow when it comes to functions that "important" people are going to be attending. "You only have one chance to make a first impression." I wouldn't dress down to the point that you stand out. I think I wore a pair of khaki pants and a simple polo shirt.

Now, we are going to be having a Meet and Greet on 08/15/09 on the Franklin campus, but you are going to be receiving more information on that in the coming days. For the Meet and Greet--casual will be fine--it's going to be a Saturday afternoon luncheon.

Also, unless something has changed, I think the iPod Touch will be fine--there is app for a drug book that I know several people use. Definitely bring that up in Orientation to get all clear though.

Hope to meet you at the M&G!

OH...for those of you who were accepted for Fall 09... Do you remember ever supplying your email address to the nursing dept? (Not the school, but the nursing dept.)

I'm not sure if I did. I will have to look back at all my paperwork. Is that how the meet and greet will be set up? If they do not have it, just let me know everything thru allnurses. Just PM me!

See you there!

Will do! I am not 100% sure of what information SNA will get from the school, so as soon as I know something I'll let ya know.

Applications are being accepted for the Spring semester until Aug. 31.

Hopefully I'll get into the program I have 7 points now that I retook the ACT and got A's in A&P I & II during the summer.

In preparation does anyone know the cheapest places to get the physical and all the blood work and shots and x-rays done?
