Any one attending or apply to Columbia State?

Maudahari,

Have you been able to register yet? I noticed that if you have not been a student at Columbia State before, you have to see your advisor first. Is this also true if your in the nursing program?

i also got accepted to the Franklin campus for fall 09. i am excited and a little scared. what classes were you signed up for on your letter?

They gave me 80283, 80286, & 80123. What classes did you get? Congrats on being accepted!

i have the same classes too. thanks for the congrats and same to you. I just signed up for the CPR class. they only have 2 spots left for Franklin. i am in the June 6th class. did u sign up or r u already certified?

No I am not. I better get to signing up tho. I wonder if I could go anywhere else and get certified? Does it have to be thru Columbia State?

i dont think so. i believe it said u could go anywhere as long as it was certified for American Heart Basic Life Support for the helath care professional (including 2 person CPR). i think the red cross does it but i'm not sure about any other places. At Columbia State it was $45, but i dont know what the Red Cross charges.

If I cannot get into one of these classes, I will have to look up other avenues on the American Heart Assoc. website. I work nights on the weekend, and Saturday's would be pretty hard for me to attend. I may have to request off the Friday night before. I really do not like to do that since I don't make that much money as it is.

That is great that we are going to be in the same clinical! I am so nervous. I know that the first day I am going to have a ton of butterflies.

Specializes in PCA.

Oh wow, Congrats again!

I don't know anything about WKU, but I'm sure there are people on the Kentucky boards that can help you with that. I'm sure it's a good school. (Sorry I just moved here from Minnesota)

Best of luck!

I signed up for the CPR class. I am also in the June 6th class. I'll see you guys then!

Congrats to everyone coming to CoSCC this fall! :yeah: The instructors are awesome and truly want to see you succeed. They will provide you with the tools you need, you just have to use them.

FYI--Be on the look out for an email or phone call from our Student Nursing Association (SNA). We're gonna be reaching out to all of our incoming Nursing Students with some type of get together before school starts. This is a great way to meet upper classmen and to get some "insider" information about what to expect and how to survive. Also, this is a great time to sign up for our mentoring program.

Congratulations again! The Franklin SNA looks forward to meeting you all soon!

A few questions about the Columbia State Nursing Program.

1. Is it easier to get accepted in the Fall or Spring?

2. When they go by GPA do they look at the amount of classes previously taken? For example if a student has 60 credit hours and a 3.0 vs. a student who may have 18 hours and a 3.2.

3. Will it help acceptance to the program if a student already has micro, A&P II, psy 206, and all of the other classes out of the way?

I'd like to apply for the program in August for Spring 2010. I'm currently enrolled in A&P I, but not sure what grade I'll get. I'm enrolled to take psy 206 and A&P II later this summer. I have an ACT score of 21. My college GPA is only a 3.37, but I have a AS. The only other general class I will need is Microbiology which I'll take in the Fall of 2009.

I will say that this college seems a little strange. Other colleges I have attended have assigned me an advisor when I apply. I'm halfway through A&P I and I still have no advisor assigned to me.

Let me try to address your questions..

1. Spring/Fall...both are very competitive-neither easier than the other.

2. GPA is only used when there is a tie for points to get into the program. From what I understand from the process is that they only look at your GPA (as a number only), the number of hours or classes taken are not taken into account.

3. Taking classes early, such as those mentioned, will not help nor hinder you from being accepted into the program. They are only taken into account if GPAs have to be used as a deciding factor. If that is the case, of course you want to make sure that the grades are as high as possible.

As far as an Advisor-I would think that one should have already been assigned, especially if you've chosen Nursing as your major. You can call the Student Center at 931-540-2540. Tell them you need to know who your advisor is and they should be able to pull it up using your SSN or Student #. They may also walk you through how to find this on MyChargerNet. If you email your advisor, understand that most of them will not be on campus until August.

Just a word of advice (take it or leave it--I just wanna try to help you get accepted):twocents:.. I might would try to retake the ACT to see if you can improve your score. The semester I was accepted (Spring 08), the lowest ACT score was 23 with a B in API.

Hope this helps....and Good Luck!
