Okay, as a Nursing III student at CSCC, I can tell you a few things. Nursing is different from anything you will ever do. The tests in Nsg I will blow your mind. I am just now feeling like I may be able to actually do this. I am not saying this as discouragement, but encouragement. It is doable. There is a lot of negatives out there about CSCC, but I actually love it. NSG III gets a bad wrap b/c it is tougher than all the semesters combined. There is a lot of info to be learned and these instructors don't play. They are serious about nursing, and serious about their students being prudent and competent. They are serious about their students learning the information and not just memorizing facts. I had a 4.0 GPA upon entering the nsg program, and I prayed for a C in nursing I. After the article in the Tennessean this past summer about all the nursing III failures, I have been so scared of failing that I have studied like never before. I have also gotten the best grades I have since starting the nursing program. I have learned something about some of the students responsible for that article. The one mentioned failed A & P 1 the first time, and only passed with a 74.5 the second time around. So, the moral of the story... CSCC is not a bad school, at all. I love it. I love nursing. It has been a bit of a challenge, and at times I may appear psychotic, but I am glad I chose CSCC, I have learned so much. If you do the work in NSG III, you will learn. Also, if you graduate from CSCC, you should have no problem getting a job at one of the area hospitals. They know how gruelling the program is and how low their NCLEX failure rate is, and you are more likely to get the job. I will graduate May 2009 and am proud to be a CSCC student! Best of luck to you.

Oh Boy! Has anyone seen the paper today? There is an article about the failure rate at Col. State. Take a looksee. I think this might me good for me. It might make them shape up before I apply. Here's the article http://www.tennessean.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2008808010409

As I mentioned earlier, the Tennessean did not really investigate their source. Most of these students were failing Nursing 2. The 2 professors resigned, and 2 new professors were brought in. They gave everyone extra credit and would ask test questions like "what is my first name" and gave EVERYBODY enough points to pass on to 3. This took out the ppl who would most likely have failed 2. When I went through 2 (while these ppl were in 3), a couple of students questioned if they would fail 2, and the instructors were like "what? NOBODY's going to fail". So, IMO, this just weeded out the ppl who would have failed 2 and 3 all in one semester. 3 is hard, and it requires more work. The first day, our professor calculated for us, on the board, the # of hours nursing 3 is. It is 11, if you have no other classes, she also stated that for every 1 class hour, you need to spend 3 outside of class studying. So, that adds up to about 33 hours a week studying. I know it sounds unrealistic, but if you put in that kind of time, you will do fine. They give you the tools to pass, you just have to use them. You can't walk through this like any other class you have had. Which is what the source for this article did. She failed A&P I, then barely passed with a 74.5. She was failing nursing 2, when the new professors came on board. So, as I have said, it was a bad source. Don't let the article have any influence on your decision.

I am hoping to apply to CSCC in Feb for the Fall 2009 program. I just took my ACT and got my results back Friday. I got a 26!! I am overjoyed to say the least!! I received a B in my A&P1 class and i beleieve my GPA is 3.4. Do you think my chances of getting in are good? I am really nervous. Any advise would be greatly appreciated!!

Congrats on your ACT score! I don't think you will have a problem getting in with the 26, even with the B in AP1. The 26 will carry you much farther than you may think.

There was an informational meeting in December for the upcoming semester for students interested in the program. If I were you, I might would contact Nursing Dept and ask them if they are going to be having another in the Spring.

When you do get in, be prepared to study your butt off..!! Isn't that right CHScruggs?

Again, congrats and good luck!

Yes..this is absolutely true.

Hey Guys! I have a question about the application process. I am fixing to send in my nursing app, but it does not ask which campus I would like to be assigned to. Do they make that desicion after they accept the students, or do they take into consideration how far you have to drive before making the decision? Any info would be appreciated!

i'm not quite sure how they do it now. there use to be a place where you could select which campus you preferred to attend. i would just call the nursing department and ask.

Hey! I got my letter today too! I got in at the Franklin campus too!!!! Cannot wait to get started. It will be great to be at the same school together! Now that the wait is over, my nerves are setting in. We definetely are going to have to be eachothers support group, and study partners.

I talked to one of the instructors last week, She instructed me to buy my books now and start reading! So I got most of them, and that's my plan for the summer to brush up on my med term and the math portion. I am all about having study partners, I have another friend that just made it in at franklin as well, (who also has children) So it will be nice to have a network for support!

Awesome!

Congrats on your letter!

Keep in touch,

Okay, now I need to make a decision. I just got accepted at WKU's south campus. I am pretty sure I am going to Columbia State, but I just don't know which one is the better program. Have you heard anything about WKU's program? Are they about the same? Financially, Columbia State is going to be the better choice, but I do not want to short change myself just because of finances. UGH! What to do!
