  1. Honestly, it is incredibly difficult to find these positions now, especially if you are not a registered CNA. Many are also unpaid now. I am a third semester nursing student with great gpa and a prior degree, and have been applying everywhere since my 1st semester (after which you are qualified for these positions). If you are interested in even trying for a position I would apply now.
  2. Hi, thought I'd help you out, I was confused about all that when I started too. You will definitely need the Kozier Nursing Fundamentals book, the Lewis Med-Surg book (mostly to do your care plans. It's really the 2nd semester book), the math book and any one care plan book and a drug book. You don't need the care plan or drug book until a few weeks into the semester, so you can wait on that one. The other books are really unnecessary.
  3. Hey guys - It was great meeting everyone Saturday! Quick question about uniforms if anyone can help me out... I found some white pants that are very comfortable, but they do have half a drawstring waist... the back has an elastic waistband and the front closes with a drawstring. Will these be OK or no? Thanks!
  4. Thanks so much, this helps SO MUCH! And yes, I will be at the meet and greet. Thanks for the book advice... I am finding even the required books online for less than at the bookstore. Wow, those uniforms sound very attractive... haha, guess I better get a watch and new socks too! Chiara
  5. Hi guys! I'm starting at the Franklin campus in the fall and had a couple of questions... first is where do we get our uniforms? And what exactly are we required to wear? I saw the handbook but it is pretty vague. I also saw we need goggles, do we need any other equipment? Also, when it comes to books, what of the non-required items listed do we really need? I want anything that will be helpful, but don't want to waste money. Thanks for any help!
  6. Hi - I'm starting the program this Fall, not sure how the points system works, but I think having a prior Bachelor's degree may play a big part. I have a BS degree (3.0-ish GPA), got a B in A&P I, but never took the ACTs (I took the SAT's in high school, but the nursing program never asked for a score) and was accepted right away. Look forward to meeting my Franklin Campus classmates soon!
  7. Wow, so did anyone get in? Seems like it was tough this year...
  8. Haha, JUST got an email as I read your response... I didn't get in either. I have a feeling they got ALOT of applicants for the fall, I think it was very competitive. I guess prior alumni don't get any special consideration. Good luck to everyone else!
  9. Sorry to hear that... good luck at Barry! Did you get a letter in the mail? I still have not heard anything...
  10. Hi Everyone, I need some advice. I am a prior college graduate with a BS in Communications, and am going back to school to become an RN. I have been accepted to both an Associates program and a BSN program. The Associates program is MUCH less expensive, and I would be able to complete it without any loans. Is it really worth it to go for the BSN? I do want to go on to get my masters in nursing, but would prefer to start working first. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks!
  11. Hi cmb- Yes I have an undergrad degree from UM, my GPA was not that great though. I actually went to visit the school last week (I was in town for a Nova interview) and actually had someone look in my file and tell me again it was undecided. I do have to say though from what I saw of both schools I was more impressed with the Nova facilities and the way I was treated there...
  12. So I too am waiting to hear back from UM for Fall 2009, I emailed Yolanda Quiles in the Admissions department (I have not been getting a response from the School of Nursing) she told me that the Nursing School has told her that they will start making admissions decisions at the beginning of May. Ugh, its been a long wait!
  13. Yep, I have called and emailed a couple of times with no response... so I wouldn't bother. I guess its just a waiting game at this point...
  14. Has anyone else heard from UM for Fall 2009? I'm still waiting and expected a decision by now... its driving me crazy!
  15. Thanks so much K. Hopefully we will be classmates! I applied to the Fall semester, which was just due March 1st, so I think I have some waiting to go still. I have emailed Yoli and not heard back... I will try to call!
