Ivy Tech Spring '10 Applicants

U.S.A. Indiana

Published

This is the "Not In" thread, or for anyone that's planning on applying for Spring Semester by the Sept 1st deadline.

We need love too! :loveya:

My Boring Stats:

A's in prereq's except ANP 2...taking that class now.

Horribly embarrassing TEAS at 76, still have two more tries. (Which is why I'm taking math and phys sci this summer. lol)

Hope to get into the Bloomington or Terre Haute programs. (Yay! Greene county gets region pts at both. lol)

Currently frazzling myself out with 5 online classes

It's nice to meet you....whoever you are....

We have lecture and group projects in place of lecture sometimes. Lab has some lecture and demonstrations as well. There's TONS of powerpoints for pretty much everything.

In lab we have to demonstrate skills for the teachers (skill check offs) and you have 1-2 chances to do it correctly for them to sign off on it (depends on the teacher) and we have written exams too. Lots of fill in the blanks on most tests.

In lecture classes, most teachers are pretty good about hitting the main points of the section that we're covering, but then we're responsible for reading the book and going over everything, whether it was gone over in lecture or not. If possible, it's good to have your reading done beforehand, but definitely make sure to do it all for the test. Most lecture tests are on scantron with the exception of fill in the blanks. I personally use lecture to get an idea of what to focus on and then I review it at home and make my own study sheets for the exams. It seems to be working out pretty well so far! I do most of my studying on the weekend, preparing for the next week. That way I don't have to do as much during the week, but everyone studies differently :)

I have a better understanding now of what to expect, so thanks. I am a weekend studier myself, so it's nice to know that it can be done.

Hey everyone--letter not here yet--BUT I am a lucky statistic and have contracted Type A flu---so I guess I have bigger worries at the moment--ugghh get the shot guys this is horrible:eek:

Oh sorry to hear you are sick Davilyn! And sorry about no letter yet! My middle son (9 yo) is sick right now with what is probably a flu. He's had high fever, cough (but only one day of that), lethargy/malaise, vomited twice, no appetite, dizziness. The ped's office did not want me to bring him in so I'll never know if he has H1N1 or another flu strain. He had the Flumist for seasonal flu a month ago. Did you get tested at the dr. office?

Bummer, Davilyn....So sorry you've not been feeling well. And Chris, sorry about your kiddo. This crazy flu is rampant! I feel like everyone has been getting it!

On a lighter note, only 2 more weeks until orientation and I think I might come unglued from the anticipation---It's like waiting for the letter all over again. (by the way, sorry for those of you still waiting on those letters---I feel for ya!)

Can't wait to see the schedule, get lists for books, etc!

AnneMarie, I'm excited to go to orientation too. . . I just wish they had sent us the list of things to do. My friend in Ft Wayne got the list with her letter and has been getting her shots/TB and healthform done already. She said that actually you have to get the TB test done twice, at least a week apart. I'd never heard that before.

I am most anxious to see what schedule I get. I thought we would be able to at least 'check a box' for our first/second choice etc, but from what someone else posted here earlier, they don't do that at all. I really want a schedule with only two 8:30 mornings a week rather than three (for childcare reasons, not because I'm lazy!), so I have a 50-50 shot I guess since there are 2 blocks with two 8:30 days and two blocks with three.

I am in the LPN program in Columbus...also an alternate for ASN! :yeah:

Hoping I will be able to slide right into the ASN! (fingers-crossed!)

Hopefully the others who are waiting will get something in the mail in the next day or so!!

Congrats RNwntaB! :w00t:

Well..still fighting this flu Tamiflu just isn't cutting it..ANYWAY...I do feel better knowing I will be in the LPN class at Columbus! SO SO SO excited! Let me know who else is going to be joining me..can't wait to meet you all..seems like we already know each other. Come on November 12!

Sorry I could not pick one to sum up how relieved I am! To those who didn't get in-don't give up-I almost did-I even gave up a good job for this last semester just to find out I didn't make it. God has a plan for all of us..just remember that!

Congrats RNwntaB!! That's wonderful news!:yeah:

And congrats to you too, Davilyn!! I know you have been WAITING forever, so you must be totally relieved to finally have your answer! Yay! I'm really excited for you! (hope you feel better soon, though!):yeah:

I wish they had sent us the requirements in the mail with our letter, too....Seems like that would have made more sense.....Still, I'm sure that doing it that way opens them up to a flood of calls from confused students asking the same questions over and over. I suppose addressing it all at one orientation helps to alleviate some of that burden for them (but not for us!). I'm just going to work on the vaccine records for now, and I guess orientation will be here before we know it and then I'll have a whole new group of items for my ever-growing "to-do" list!! lol

I'm in! I finally got my letter from TH. = )

We got a packet as well. Forms for the physical, Employment Verification (I'm not sure what that is for) which is $7, Background check-$50, Drug Test $40, Uniform ordering form, which although green pants are available, the letter says we need white pants (white pants!) It also lists the other things we need to buy. I can hear my poor bank account draining. = )

I'm so excited though. I can't believe I made it. lol
