Had been on economic forbearance for my student loans for about a year or so, it was due for renewal this August. However, I received a letter today from my lender (to my surprise) that my loans have been approved for half-time study deferment through June 2010. I was planning to fill out a form for deferment later on as I have done in the past.
My question is: How the heck did they know I was in school to do this automatically? Not that I am complaining, this is what I wanted anyway.
I'm currently working on my prereqs at the local college. Taking 8 credits this summer and registered for 7 more this fall.

From what I have been told, some schools are part of a "clearinghouse" that automatically submits your information to lenders. The same thing happened to me during my pre-reqs, but then when I started nursing school I was told that I had to fill out the deferment form because my school doesn't participate in this "clearinghouse." Hope that helps!!

Some schools let the lender know that you are attending school, and whether it's on a half time, full time, etc.
The weird part is that my loans are from another school and I pay out of pocket for the tuition at my present school. I never went to financial aid or ever indicated to them that I have outstanding loans.
But the clearinghouse thing does make sense. Perhaps they do this for everyone irrespective of loan status. Hope my BSN school (a different school) will be as efficient!!
